Thanks for being the first person on my sketchbook, you made my day! Lovely figures and gestures throughout, though I can see from your annotations that you're as self conscious as I am. Having a tough 'inner critic' is both good and bad, don't let it onto the paper too much. Fantastic pace and really digging those animal studies, I look forward to seeing where you go from here

] Matija Vuk - Will do and thank you!

] Jwatkins - No worries at all! I know a good skb when I see one . Ohhh yes I'm pretty bad like that ~ but true, taken on-board, I'll try to refrain myself from self-insulting haha - I shall only write on my work from here on if they're 'helpful' notes. Thanks for stopping by

[ skb - I read a lot from different books today - didn't get as much done as usual, however I learnt a lot of valuable information that I hope to put into practice asap! Work time is definitely important but equally as important as play time. Failure through application of study is the way to go for improvement to be possible -- or so that's the theory.

So far today I've done some Bammes studies, Loomis studies, and messed around with different mediums -

I have a lot to learn - but in saying that: I've learnt a lot from this hairy man... and I hope I can continue to learn from this new workflow I've established for myself. I now see how important balancing study and play time really is .
It needs to happen at least once a day! I need to make sure I have time to put my studies into practice! Whether that be sketching in a book or on paper -- or digitally.
    Make it happen lady !

Also: damn I shouldn't have only posted one thing :'/

    play, plaaey, pleh!

] Matija Vuk - yep! I'm running on pure motivation and inspiration! hahah

    [ skb - refless figures/characters!
I didn't intend spending as long as I did on the first figure... hmm, probably trying too hard to get the values right. In which case is a tell that I need to paint more to become more confident in the medium -- as well as grasp a better understanding of lighting/values. It really is enjoyable noting where I could improve upon next time ~ feedback is welcome as always

Wow that's a lot of studies! I'm sure they are paying off. Arm anatomy looks especially good and lips. Read your quick intro on your first thread entry. IMHO - you are always ready to take on challenging art projects. I would recommend doing so if you aren't already...sinking your teeth into a few big projects helps focus the constant studies and drilling. Keep posting!

lol woke up late again... but --

] liquidjack - thank you very much for the advice and for dropping by! I'll be sure to just go for it and experiment whilst painting with whatever comes to my head...! Hopefully I can turn some of the sketches into projects -- because you're right! It's not all about the studies ~ it's about just having fun too!

[ skb - I would say I got a hefty bit of work done! (thank you check list!)

Started at 1pm: actually worked on my perspective zomg! All free-handed though so it's a bit messy... rulers seem to be invisible in my house - eh, who needs 'em!
followed by a couple of Loomis studies, gestures (including a couple of 5min ones) and a refless female portrait (1st one evvveeeerr! Feels good! Although of course I know where I could improve on - I enjoyed attempting to paint it!)

Hello mate !!!let me say somethings.
Ok, you will do really great. Why? Well you are working really hard and thats a major ingredient in the improvement recipe.Next thing, you are actually studying. Next thing, i already see lovely lines and drawings and things will keep getting better and better if you keep up studying with using your brain. Also, you are doing refless things on addition to studies, that means you increase the number of trial and error, and that means you are learning faster. So, great start on your journey, i also started seriously at the same age, so just keep up [there will be times of bad periods that you will want to drop the pencil, but try to fight them cause its a product of change/improvement and new challenges to come].
No need to say more right now lets just keep up !!!

    Yay for a new day!

] Colour Coded - why thank you! I'll make sure I do and thanks you coming by!
] kingkostas - my goodness.... I don't know what to say! I was speechless after reading your post ! Thank you a bunch for the wonderful advice and feedback ~ I'll be sure to remember it when times get rough... it was very humbling to read your reply after a day's work! It has provided me with that extra level of inspiration aaaandd motivation that won't be leaving my side any time soon!
    Thanks again !

    [ skb - woke up early like a BOSS-ette!

Did some perspective study which I've begun to enjoy which I find to be pretty funny considering I always used to put it off! 3-point today + messing about -- getting a feel for the concept.
Bridgman leg studies ~ (note: proportions)
couple of hand studies (note: work on hand anatomy)
Vanderpoel facial feature studies (neglected head studies - do some tomorrow) (note: work on eye width + separation)
refless portrait sketches (note: work on differences in facial anatomy/head structure. Differentiation)
a clumsy 30min self-portrait that looks nothing like me (oh and two little messy thumbnail sketches for the speedpaint)
    1 hour refless speedpaint

    You're on fire!

The improvement is very visible and you are becoming more confident with different mediums. I particularly think the pen studies are boosting your line confidence. I would suggest also doing face construction from Loomis and Bridgman to help you with the proportions. (start with the construction instead of drawing the contour). Someone who is really good at is Benedikt, example http://conceptart.org/forums/showthr...35#post3584235

    Keep up the good work!

] kingkostas - thanks you matey!! I'll keep pushing forever and ever!

[ skb - That just made me work even harder!
    quick 30min portrait, + two 2min ones
30sec-60sec gestures (oh I seem to be missing two more pages... ah ¯\(°_o)/¯ )
    a couple of Bridgman hands
    bit of perspective
2 still-life colour studies ~60mins each - with first mirror study - hard to grasp but fun, fun, fun! (note: didn't intend to send so much time on these... work on time management)
1 thumbnail concept to digital sketch w.i.p (note: finish in future!)
    1 refless sketchy ~2hours (note: "^")

I like the fact that you are working on paper! Your character studies are indeed interesting, but probably wherever you feel ready you should try posting a finished and more polished sketch

Damn, things are moving fast in here! Very nice still lifes and pen sketches. You're nailing the vanderpoel eyes too, they look great. Suggest reading up on ellipses in perspective, there are a few simple rules that will really help with mugs and anything cylindrical. If you imagine a vertical line through the middle of the mug (like the axle of a car, the ellipses at top and bottom of the mug would be the wheels), the ellipses will have their major axes perpendicular to that vertical line. The major axis is a straight line connecting the widest points of the ellipse.
Working out the degree of the ellipse is more complicated, but you can usually eyeball it.

So I thought taking a day off on V-Day would be harmless...

] M.Calza - thanks you again dude, yeah I'll have to try and apply it to my sketches from now on
] Biomecha_wolf - haha thanks buddy very true, I must try for some finished sketches... I'll probably do one soonish -- 2 days without sketching really screwed up my confidence D: ... I'll get there soon though!
] dableu - awh, thank you so much this means a lot to me and really helped pump my motivation back to 110% after being away for two days! I'll be pushing even harder now <: !
] Kvetch - yay! Thanks a bunch dude! That's really heart-warming to hear . Ooh awesome advice and taken on-board! Ellipsis' are hard shapes to draw/understand most times for me... thus, I will annihilate them bahaha.

Thanks for stopping by guys, really helped me get back to my usual level of motivation/inspiration after beings away for (what felt like foreeever without a sketchbook/computer) 2 days lol.

[ skb - hung out with a friend on the 14th, came back around midnight, the following day - spontaneously went to the city... would've been great buuut I forgot my sketchbook... so I literally got nothing done for 2 days straight! It's funny, I actually felt quite anxious not being able to sketch at least one little thing :s not like unable-to-cope type of anxiousness -- just felt a little uneasy knowing there were moments during those two days that I could have done something in a skb - like on the bus rides, trains, waiting for people etc, and knowing that... was hard to accept.
So, note to self: don't forget your "papa smurf" i.e. skb.

Although not being able to draw for the past two days set me back in my confidence a little bit -- I say: "screw it!" and got my felt-tips out :3

Quickest Vanderpoel studies I've done to date (30-1min ea)
    Bridgman Arms
Some Loomis hands and refless hands
Some refless eyes, mouths and studies of my own eyes, mouth etc.
Trying some new things in PS (working with clipping masks etc) sketchy poos - refless
Mucking around with colour and clipping masks sketchy poo - refless

I feel like such a stalker; your sketchbook is such a treat to look through! On many occasions (this one included) I would look at it from the very beginning to the end. The evolution of your linework, your head studies (after I recommended Loomis !!!!!!) and your dabbling of different mediums: DAMN, to think that it has only been, what... a month?? My mind can't even comprehend how good you will be at the end of March. You motivate me...KEEP UP THE AWESOME WORK. DON'T STOP! GET IT GET IT!!

I'm really liking the zelda and hang glider sketches. I guess there's a lot to be said for simplifying things. You're putting us all to shame with the crazy amount of studies you get through. Keep going!

watched a bunch of livestreams today... I am now exploding with knowledge!

] Kvetch - thanks you man ! Haha it's really fun trying new things ~ sure thing, will do!
] M.Calza - hahaha o/ yay I'm honoured to have you both as stalkers . Thanks you! I'm sure you can too!

[ skb - I could have done a bunch more work today, and I know it -- but the time was well spent learning things from a good few livestream sit-ins.
...although I could have been sketching while listening/glancing at the stream... yeah... I'll probably do that next time
Still gotta make damned good use of time -- don't kid yourself girl!

A couple (and when I say a couple I mean a couple) of gestures
Refless portrait sketches, followed by a few Loomis eye sketches
A wip sketch I might actually finish one day -- it was taking too long and I initially started it to test out a timelapse app I'm using to help some friends out with art. Any help counts, right?
    Couple of refless enviro/colour sketches

Looks like you really like things flying into the distance I like the b/w one, for the women portraits I would suggest that you try to make then a little cleaner so they be more feminine, and always remember how the cranium lies underneath.Keep'm coming!!!
