Hello CA!

New member here, advise when needed please.

Here is a quick sketch of my "Alien Nursery" entry.
Hopefully I will be able to finish it by the deadline.

Speaking of which, I know the posted deadline is Feb 28th (currently)...
and since I'm sure I will be working on this until the last possible minute,
I wanted to be clear on how strict the deadline is. Is the deadline
11:59:59 P.M. GMT Feb 28th, or is it more casual? If it is more casual,
(or if I have the time wrong); how late can we post?

I noticed Velocity Kendall requested an extension...
How about an extension for everyone? I know I could use it.

I'm excited to be a part of the CA community! I will try to get my portfolio
or sketchbook posted sometime after this contest piece is finished.

LOL I just started on the digital copy today, literally. I found a house mid month and am in the process of a crazy move into a house I found on the 14th. (jacuzzi, across from the Washington State Capitol - free bus! and 700 sf studio/workshop attached) I havn't even had time for much sketching. So it should be fair enough. I figure I can carve out 10 hours of drawing in the next two days. That's usually my actual hours on finished work.

from sketches. im thinking of making the aliens much smaller in the room as it feels a bit too bulky. Have to pack boxes for now for a break and a bit of clam chowder and wine.

Worked on mid-tones today. Here is a closeup of the area I was focusing on.
This pic is 150 dpi since the detail wasn't showing at 72 dpi, the file I'm
working on is actually 300 dpi. I know it's overkill for a casual contest, but
old habits (print ready!!!) die hard.

Still so much left to do... another pass for highlights and shadows, finishing the
remaining characters to equal level, all the nursery props (books, posters, etc.).

I wanted to do a quaint macrame or woven hanging on right wall with a play on
the line from the original Alien trailer; it was going to say:
"In Suburbia, no one can hear you scream".

...probably not gonna have time to complete most of the ideas.

Oh well, next contest I will be in from the start (hopefully), or at least sooner
than 3-4 days before deadline.

I'll post one last pic tomorrow before the deadline with what I was able to finish.

Attempted posting a few minutes ago and its not showing up in the
thread or under "What's New"/New Posts. So assuming I goofed on
the first post here goes try number two.

Worked on mid-tones today, but still so much to get done.

This close up is at 150 dpi because the the detail of what I was working
on today wasn't showing at 72 dpi. My actual work file is 300 dpi, which

I've tried to post a pic update twice now using the "go advanced" posting method
and neither post is showing up. I don't know if these problems posting are due to
being a new user, user error, or site error.

I am able to log in now so at least that obstacle was removed.

Okay well quick post works.... not sure why my "Go Advanced" posts didn't.
Guess I'll just wait and try tomorrow to post a final before the deadline.

Thanks for the advice V.

I'm not worried about someone liking/disliking/joking about my chosen name, but rather
the more practical side of whether it is a problem for employers in some way.

The other issue that I am thinking about is how to link my recent and upcoming work to
my previous body of work. Now that I am re-entering the work force I would like to be able
to include relevant pieces from my early days as a gallery artist, my mural/faux work, as well
as examples of the 3D and digital work that I was beginning to do before I left the industry.

Perhaps I am worrying about nothing... I suppose I will have a clearer idea of what potential
issue(s) I might be facing after I finish going through my archives and assemble a first edit of
my portfolio/sketchbook posts.
