Yeah, I think it'd be okay for you to step away from the anatomy constructions and move onto something else, since you've gotten a really great handle on them. I feel like I need to go back and review some anatomy after looking at yours, actually!

Those constructions are looking awesome I agree with MrFrenik, it may be worth looking at something else now so you can rack up some combo-points. Great work

Hey GreyPersona, thanks for all the help you have given on my SB!
Your stuff is looking great! =] Pretty solid.
The last study you posted, it feels rather flat.
Really looking forward to more of your stuff. =]
It's not who I am underneath, but what I DO that defines me

    yes
    construction studies
    good

i don't know what your process is with painting life studies, but try using the thinking process that you might have used for those perspective car studies or even the figures.
the key is thinking in 3d. after that, figuring out its lighting will be a snap.

Hey man, great studies as usual!! The construction on that jeep looks super solid, and the portrait as well. Basically, I think you have by far reached a level where you should start having fun with your skills. You've trained a long time to get up to this level academically, but the real value of an artist is the generation of ideas.

Just like a writer must learn proper grammar and style, artists must learn how to communicate things visually. But the real value is in what is said! So I think it's equally important for you to start finding out what you, as a person, want to bring out in the world.

I might be totally off on a tangent here - I hope I at least have made some sense

you are right man,my problem though is that my idea generation is not very good at the moment because I am a very rigid thinking dude or at least convinced myself that I am.
I think its lack of inspiration,I have the tenacity to sit my ass down and study but I forgot a bit why I like drawing in the first place. and drawing 10 hours a day
with little social life doesnt exactly remind me why or fill the wind in the sails of my muses.
I need to do more interesting shit outside of drawing!

*sorry for the disjointed writing style.

great stuff in here! seems like you´ve found a great recipe for improvement!
basic shapes, studies and construction (Y)
maybe i´d add more stuff from mind to that mix as well, keep the creative side of it flowing. as well as test yourself of how much you learn from the studies and so on.

I know what you mean. I felt like I had no creativity in me when doing nothing but studying and almost began to question why I was trying to be an artist at all, ha. But don't let anyone tell you differently: creativity is a skill, just like any other, and it can be learned. You just have to put in the time to work on it like anything else.

Your construction and rendering are looking really good but, as been said, don't forget why you started drawing in the first place. "all work and no play makes jack a dull boy" . Have a little fun. Try reading, movies, museums, drawing more outside, or doing random doodles on a newspaper as a source of inspiration.
I know these feeling all too well, too much study can drain the creativity out of you sometimes.

Big difference between those last two still lifes, the structure is much better in the more recent one. If you wait for inspiration you'll never get anything done... the studies make it easier to be creative, sometimes it doesn't feel that way though

    Inkthyosaur-thanks man.

Flaskpost-yeah I am gonna change my work schedule to fit more creative stuff.

MrFrenik-creativity is a sketchy subject,I think that everyone is creative in their core of cores but only few people
can tap into that place of being truly original, also a lot of creativity is down to being an interesting person, and you cant teach that.

    JDBI-thank man will do.

Kvetch-thank so much mate,I think in the long run studying does help.

    Yemi775-appreciate it!

*a couple of wips of photo studies, the drawing sucks on these but I was suprised that I didnt do worse in the color department(although they dont match the photos that much).

Good studies, man. Constructions are good, your values just need to be pushed further; really work to create a strong contrast between your light and dark sides of your image.

I've started to notice it is like MrFrenik says, it is a skill that can be learnt through alot of hard work! You got to hit up that feng zhu video on the visual library studies. Im noticing one of the most important things is improving your visual library and learning the anatomy of everything. Sometimes there are days i dont even draw because im learning all the parts of a tractor then the next day it becomes so easy to draw them then make my own. I spend the whole day filling up pages in my sketchbook of just notes. Become a student of this world. The more you know about this world the better a designer you will be! Keep Pushing it!!! Looking forward to seeing more!

yeah. man. nice progression. feel quite similar about creativity and innovation, but also think that the arguments here are quite rigth. you can't be creative before knowing your tools, but just sitting down kickin some studies out is never wrong =)
also totally agree with the library idea.
keep it up. nice brushstrokes and rendering btw.

Great looking stuff dude! I love your proportion studies and your digital painting looks really nice (: I'd try working with a bit more colour now, though I really love your proportion things! Maybe size some of them up and go over them in Photoshop? I think that would be fun :B Subscribing!

Nice armour study. I saw someone do an interesting design exercise, I think it was in csear's sketchbook, basically taking everyday objects and breaking them down into major shapes, then recombining those shapes to make things. E.g take a toothbrush, a mug handle and a lampshade and using your mad l33t perspective skillz, combine those shapes into a truck or spaceship design or whatever.

Kickass! Such a great notion of planes in your works makes everything very solid and structured when you render them.
