Some progress.
Still want to add some other trinkets and random stuff to him. Maybe another light source.

I know it's not medieval, but I have this idea knocking around, and wanted to finally make a first contribution.

Well, welcome aboard! Just as a reminder, the character designs need to show at least 3/4 of the entire character. Your current image is about 1/3, and he looks like hes trapped inside the boundaries of the paper, so use bigger sheets or draw much smaller so you can get the entire character in there! Also don't EVER be afraid to use reference. We all use it and it helps with developing your skills.
Visit this thread to familiarize yourself with the rules. It is a bit out dated, so if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
Good luck!

It really is more of a doodleI ended up using my pocket sketchbook, and really rushed it along. I'll break out some larger stock and get some reference together and try to submit something more up to par. Thank you for the welcome

Level 2 Gladiator: Ordinarii
haha, a hitman goblin Cameli? Ace.
Alexson, I love the lighting. Great face too.
FltingPenguin, those are lovely thumbnails, looking forward to more.
Mhugo, I like the middle one.
JanJager, Ratty! Good different take on a goblin. Like the pose too.
Here's where I got to. It's taken me a lot longer than I would've liked, and I had to switch to colour which was a bugger. Fought through the "looking a bit crap" stage, and I think it's coming out the other side finally, but the face has lost something.

Update, still not sure how I'm gonna make him more assassin-like, but I wanna go with snakes because daggers are kinda boring.

Small update still wip.... really nice round so far, thanks for all the comments.
@Kahel: Pay attention to stay om topic, its not the queen, but the gobo assasin.... :-) But I really do know the pull toward slightly other topics..
@ gauthan, Im looking forword to see some progress here!!! Looks really drmatic with the bg....
@ Jan Jager, thanks fot the anatomy tip...Its a pain, I drew Bridgman forward and backward but am still a noob with this stuff... looks neat but the right arm is too long is it?
@ quinn well thats what I was thinking about, so cool!!! Love the face and the all around mood!!!!
@mhugo ! Gr8, looks really classy, great armors!!!!
@dpfx: Thannks a ton 4 your feedback! Yea anatomy is still hard for me.. yours looks good so far, some more mood could enhance the pull into the image...
@umpaart Yea tough guy!! will be great!!
@flypengion Amazing stuff!!!! Id love #2 most.... great renderings....

@Thujon, You should consider changing the composition, the hallway is leading the eye out of the picture.
This is maybe better, I used the rule of thirds to place the character and I moved the door a bit to the right because it is was "hugging" the side of the picture which leads the eye out of the image.

Still kicking around ideas before I commit to start rendering in digital. I'm really having trouble on coming down to one design.
I really like the way this chow is going. Lots of very cool looking stuff guys!
Me, Myself & Me Again - nice heads! The one with black hair has a lovely smile
Chevy28360 - Good start man, the outfit has a slight samurai-ish vibe to it.
Thujon: Work on your anatomy and proportions as much as you can, draw from life and copy some of the masters you admire the most. There's a lot of naked/blank areas on your Goblin, try to add some more detail.
UmpaArt: I like it, but you need to add something to a sense of scale because of his brutish appearance and pose he looks more like a giant.
SimianSmash: Same as above, and admittedly the same problem with mine. Your Goblin looks like a giant because of your background elements. I know you are trying to with with a vertical perspective but it's coming off like your Goblin is a giant in a small hall.

Going for the scarred & grizzled veteran assassin look. Like he's been in the service of the kind for many, many years, quietly keeping the King in power by removing his enemies.
Still to add his scars and, maybe, tattoos.
Getting a bit lost here though, could use some direction and feedback if anyone has any.
Craig Paton - Lovely work man. =]

@Havoc Reed- Love it... Although i think you should check out the right shoulder of the goblin. The right arm should be smaller than the left one as it is further away. Thats what i think...What do you say?
@Luucky Mc Cain- I like the smiling assassin bit... I can actually visualize the guy smiling all the time...but kicking ass when needed...Nice one man... Like havoc said, make sure you show a lot more of the character... Check out some nice poses for reference...Looking forward to your progress..
@Tomercs - I like the whole veteran assassin bit and the tattooed tribal bit but wouldn't it make more sense to show that he is old yet good at his job...Like right now he looks more like a wise councilor than an assassin...maybe you could change the pose a bit just to make the character read better... dont take my word for it..its just how i perceive it.. What do you think?
@ Kamiru - Man.. That is just awesome.... You could really use the snakes for a kick ass design and even an eye catching composition.... i think you should do lots and lots of thumbnails to see how you can integrate the snakes...It will become an epic piece i believe.
@ Thujon - Dude..i think you should change the background a bit...I get the whole waiting in the hall thing... and thats nice..but i think you could try out different angles to approach the piece. cause right now as the eye moves from left to right, because the path is leading back to the upper left area, there's a bit of an uncomfortable feeling... perhaps you could do a circular steps going upwards and then turning right behind the wall...maybe that way, you can guide the viewers eye back into the character...
@ chevy28360 - cant wait for the rendering.. armor looks nice..
@ fdisk - looks nice man..i checked out your deviantart to see your renderings and i think it will look nice when it is rendered in your style...
@ Craig Paton - looks nice man..love the simplicity of it.. a bit of tattoos perhaps... or bruises? what do you think?
@ Me,Myself & Me again - i like the hunched back charc....i wanna see some more of your ideations...
@ JakeB- nice dude.. this would look kickass if done like the morgan WIP piece in your blog.. same atmosphere would really translate well for this subject matter..i think.
@ ricardops- bad ass dude... although i think you should make sure that the character doesn't come off as too sluggish.. since he is an assassin, he must be able to escape easily..Its not necessary for every assassin to be thin or anything...if you're making him big perhaps you could imply that he is good at disguises or that he can blend easily into the background...i think he sticks out too much now..
And now my update....
Lots of work to be done.. not entirely happy with the pose...i'll be making him more mysterious....
Cant wait to see all your new updates..This topic is insane...
Craig Paton, Gautham: As I've mentioned with others in this thread (And I really hope I'm not getting annoying with this) I like the overall designs but I'm not getting a good sense of scale. They could be an Orc or other type of fantasy creature assassin. I wouldn't necessarily suggest limiting the scale to other characters or props, maybe add a pet, something we are used to seeing in the real world like a rat, dog, etc. so we can get a sense of scale that these are Goblins (Typically shorter than a human)

So I went with the jester design for my assassin... maybe I have been playing to much skyrim lately. So here is the line drawing... Thinking of calling him Mr. Jingles.

I don't know if I'm going to do a final, but I've been compulsively doodling goblins since I saw the topic, so here's a design at least?
Going for more of a spymaster look, though I think it's coming off as "pirate" at the moment? The coat helps her slip through the shadows. (Man, if this does go to final, there's no way she's going to read as female, OH WELL.)

Some awesome work so far! Will edit in some C&C sometime between sleep and work.
Got a bit more done with my entry. Mostly the face as that was what needed the most fleshing out/changes, in addition to some basic color tossed about.

I don't want to be disrespectful, but the mission statement was:
Within the Royal Goblin Palace, in the darkest shadows, the Goblin Assassin awaits the Kings signal, and the name of the next target.
Throughout his reign, the Goblin King has made many enemies and with the Goblin Assassin at his side, he will stop
at nothing to make sure they do not stand in his way.
This week we would like you to design the Goblin Assassin, a master of arms and the real power behind the Goblin throne.
The Guidelines:
Can be male or female
The Goblin Assassin is a member of the Kings Royal Court, this must be evident in your design
Think about what kind of weapon(s) the Goblin Assassin might use
The Rules
Finals must be posted in the finals thread before the deadline
Final post must include the CHoW number and the artists username at the bottom of the image
At least 3/4 of the character must be visible
At least two wips posted in the finals thread
Background is optional
Have fun!
so in my defence, "royal" does not automatically means medieval -- fantasy.
i hope i didn't step on anyones toes here, i just don't want to seem like an ignorant person.
cheers,
flo
Update, just thinking.. might change the little skull to a rat or crow to give him some size comparison.
Lots of great entries, will try to get some comments up later.
progress
since it's my first time join chow, is there any rule for final entry picture size?
sorry for my bad english

You're right to point that out, and that issue is a lack on our part of describing the brief correctly. But this issue was discussed earlier in the thread, on the first page, where someone asked if it "could be any time period." Quinn responded asking that it be the medieval/fantasy time period. I wouldn't have said anything about it if the issue hadn't already been brought up. And since we already told someone that they should stick with the medieval time period, I think it would only be fair for everyone to follow that addition to the guidline.
Again, not blaming you or anything and it is mainly our fault for it. I just suggest you read through the thread to check for things like that in the future. Quinn and I are still learning all of this, so we make mistakes.
Hope this clears things up.
no problem, mate, I will look more carefully for stuff like that in the future. i just felt that i had to start fast, in order to catch up to everyone. as it turns out, i would be better to spend half an hour instead of reworking stuff. but everything is fine, i was not too happy with the design anyway so here is a new set of sketches, this time more medieval.
cheers
