Hey! So I decided it was about time I stopped lurking on this site and actually start participating. My name is Tristan Berndt and I live in Sweden. I'm trying to improve on my skills as an artist so I can work as a freelance illustrator.

hey man, I love your work so far. Great start. loving the organic feel of your paintings. One thing that is throwing me off is that the forms are losing form and depth due to confused lighting situations. I'd make sure your lighting stays anchored in one spot and that you paint it in your painting off to the side to show where the light is coming from. But other than that... I'm pretty impressed for the first post. Keep at it man! I'll be watching.![]()

I totally get what you're saying about the form/light issues. It's a recurring problem I have so I'll definitely work on that
Thanks man!

Bra jobbat, Trystan!
I really like everything you've put out so far, but I do agree with Jmob on the whole lighting issue.
I'd like to see how you tackle full-fledged environment paintings.![]()
cool stuff, given me some inspiration.
Salut Tristan, j'aime bien ton style et particulièrement le chevalier, bonne continuation.
Thanks, I'm gonna work on my lighting and try to make sure that it's correct in my upcoming posts.
Environments kinda are my kryptonite so I'll do a few studies and maybe post them if I'm not too embarrassed![]()
Wow I like that last study and the second one on your first post! Wanna see more!
And don't worry, I think your environments will be great n__n

Your works are amazing! How long have you been drawing/painting? I really need to learn tablet work, so I may think about creating things like these! Very inspirational.
Well as children we all drew, I just never stopped. I've gotten more serious during the last 2 years and about 6 months I came to the conclusion that I want to be an illustrator so I've really kicked it into high gear. Soooo I can't really put a number on how long but I think you can kinda understand how long I've worked hard at it.
Learning to use your tablet is something that you just need to screw around with to find what suits you![]()
Hey. Nice Work so far!
Some crits:
The Knight one looks a little flat. Try to use the whole range of values (the picture is lacking real dark tones)
That last landscape doesnt really look big/far, because there is big contrast in the castle which is far away. Usually everything is getting more blue and grey, as it gets more far away from the eye... example: http://www.zum.de/Faecher/Materialie...ve/PERSP18.JPG
Overall it seems that you are using way to small brushstrokes. Try to use the biggest brush possible for each problem. That approach has lots of benefits, one of the wich is speed.
Keep it up, looking forward to seeing more from you.

This is a sketch for an album cover. The band I'm doing this for is a Hardcore/Metal band and the theme of the album will be a blend of nature and faith(I hope that info might help if anyone would like to crit it). Got permission to post my process online so I thought it would be a good opportunity to post it here and se if I can get any help. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Looks like a great beginning. Maybe the cross is a little misplaced? Maybe the silhouette of the deer could be more interesting. It is very closed on the outside...
