    Wylie Beckert's Illustration Work

Since I'm trying to get serious about this art thing, I thought it would be a good time to start up a sketchbook and a Finished Works thread so I can post everything in style. This is the latter.

Here's a link to my sketchbook thread:
    Wylie Beckert's Sketchbook

I'm always trying to improve both individual pieces AND my overall work, so criticism is always welcome.

Here's my most recent personal work, and the first piece for my (soon-to-be) revamped 2013 illustration portfolio. It's my first attempt at a finished piece since starting up the anatomy/perspective/etc study again. Pencil and charcoal on gray charcoal paper, colored in Photoshop CS5.

Some progress pics for this one can be found over in the WIP Showcase. I'll add some pics of the early sketch stages to my sketchbook when I get a chance.

Very nice work. There is a bit to look at and a story to tell for sure. I like the tonal values as well, simplistic but it really draws the eye to the men-glass.

Very pretty! Also really disturbing, what has happened to the men in the glass? It definitely invokes some curiousity in the story behind it, great work!

Ooooh, I really like the technique. I was wondering what you used to make that (saw it on Behance a couple weeks ago). Looks really nice.

Thanks to everyone who's commented on my work! Here are a few new finished pieces: a contest entry/portfolio piece, and a quick digital color of a traditional piece I made for a Christmas gift. Calling them finished for deadline purposes, but critiques are still most welcome.

    lovely stuff wylie!
your mix of traditional and digital is absolutely spot on, it creates a unique feeling to your illustrations.
i agree with the others who say that your pieces are telling stories, they might be great book covers, because they are really not just showing us something, they're telling there's something behind it, there's something coming and they make want to know!
