critique needed

Hi there folks, ive had a sketchbook for aaages but this is my first time posting anywhere else so i hope ive got it right! Im hoping to give someone this painting as a christmas present, so i want it to be the very best i could make it. unfortunately i need a lot of help and critique for that, so go nuts

You need reference, is what you need. I just had a peek at your sketchbook -- your latest batch of life drawings was several notches more sophisticated than anything you're doing from imagination. Which says you need to feed stuff into your imagination with more chunks of reality.

If you can't get anyone to model for you, put your camera on a tripod and pose for both figures yourself. Nice strong directional light source. It'll make a world of difference.

thanks so much with the feedback, your totally right. i started making the light source more defined today and it looked much better but i lost all my work when the photoshop at uni messed up ¬.¬ oh well, ill just have to do it again!
