The Infected Scientist
Deadline - Sunday, December 2 10PM GMT


It is the year 2015, a meteor has smashed into the earth infecting most of the population with an alien bacteria.
As the alien bacteria continues to spread at an alarming rate, the head of Disease Control, Dr. Greenwood,
is working around the clock to formulate a cure. But having been infected by the alien bacteria and displaying
symptoms never seen before, Dr. Greenwood's time is running out!

Your task this week is to design the Infected Scientist, Dr. Greenwood. How much or how little the infection has
spread is up to you, but it must be obvious that our poor scientist has been infected by the alien bacteria.

The Guidelines:

• Can be any gender
• Must still be able to perform scientific tasks while infected

The Rules

• Finals must be posted in the finals thread before the deadline
• Final post must include the CHoW number and the artists username at the bottom of the image
• At least 3/4 of the character must be visible
• At least two wips posted in the finals thread
• Background is optional
• Have fun!

Here's my entry... long long time since last entry

before i drawed anything i imagined a story in my head.. what kind of infection it would be and so on...

i thought that it would have been purposedly planted by aliens to infect human kind with the virus to turn them in to an resources like fuel/energy...

so i thought that this virus starts eating muscle tissue and organs to produce these energy gems.

and in wip pic there is how the virus would spread and take over your brain functions in the end before completely dying...

Some critiques, sorry for my english, i hope the ideas can be understood.

giby, i liked the concept and the presentation though imo the proportions of the character are more suitable for a soldier thatn a scientis and the proportion of the legs are off. being all of this said i think is the best looking concept...just that for me is not the best match for the brief.
Artka, i love the atmosphere you created here, the character has...character. Critique:the left lef of the character is disconected from the body. i voted for you among others.
Jarrad, looks unfinished, but next time try to define a source of light and define more clearly the volumes. You always can use a reference to extract the light, shadows and middle tones. Light is very difficult as to just imaginate how behaves,better to rely on real world reference. Keep participating.
Thujon, I like the retro style, nice textures going on, i see that you need to be more precise with the anatomy, check some reference if you don't master the thing. Also think in the weight of things.....if you are making that big arm, the logical thing would be that it would hit the floor.
ricardops, i like the apocaliptic scene and the face details and expression, nice entry. I don't understand what is happening with the foreground leg...looks like can be in the air, or crossed to the other side touching the floor but without shadow. Is confusing but more of an illustration issue than a design one.
vatteh, most of all looks correct, but my critique would be that there is not that interest character to look at. is just a regular guy with some green, alienized parts. You used a lot of your time to define the environment. You can evaluate to spend that energy in doing some cool silhouettes next time, or exploring diferent ideas that makes the design pop more and be more appealing wich is the single most importat thing in my opinion. Not easy though!
Alexanderjr, similar critique as the one for vatteh, is a correct but not greathly appealing design. Try to push your imagination a little more, you can exagerate a little more than that.
midknight523, i like a lot the camera perspective, and the dinamism of the piece, the guy looks like really having a mind and going on on a terrible situation wich makes him look very alive. the drawings are looking great, you had one of my votes.
noun, the problem here is that there is not a single clue about this being a scientist infested by an alien virus or something like that....try to make your designs in such way that there is almost not need to explain anything. If one of the two heads of your character would be alien like, you could have a very unique approach and idea here.
gerezon, liked this one, maybe looking more insect than alien. i like the spontaneity of the brush strokes and the silhouette of the design.
david79, one of my votes were for you, more than the design per se i like the overall feel of the illustration with the lights and the guy looking to the camera. Is just appealing to watch and seems believable. I think the left arm is greathly disconected even for the deformation of the character is looking off like coming from nowhere. I think that arm could look a lot better and give a more fluid and natural impression if it would on front of the character, maybe leaning in a chair or something.
myself....looks unfinished, the silhouette isn't looking that bad, the apron is looking 100% flat. The overall thing is looking a little cliche and maybe a more vegetal than alien. The light is a little inconsistent. Looks somewhat appealing but very distant as to be great. keep trying!jeej
G@m, one of my voted ones too. In my opinion the more solid entry because the perspective, proportions, light etc is looking ok, and the scientist and alien concepts are very clear, so for me, you did a good job both technically and conceptually which surpasses any other entry.

Sillirien, i like the overall style, the arm is looking too short and in general i'd say that the idea and character is a little undefined and not greathly appealing.
Gaspard, not sure what to tell you, is looking ok. i guess i have no critiques but neither big compliments. Maybe there is too much color going on and little form mostly for the yellow part.
Callops, i like that the guy is possing with his infected arm as if he were now the experiment and he accept it. Not sure i voted you, i think i did....if not maybe i didn't because i voted for others that looked more polished. Nice one!
maxdav90, the funniest of the bunsh, i like it alot the problem being that the guy is looking like an hibrid between human, insect and fish more than alien. Also he looks a little dumb (the expression more than the face per se) as to be a scientist.
deftonys, you have some nice illustrated parts here, but the design could be better. Mainly my critique would be that the infected arm is not flowing naturaly, as if it were copy pasted onto the scientist body. And is looking too straight and short. The colors are a little too saturated imo.
jakeB, looking ok just not really appealing design/character
Severdhead, looking more mechanical than alien to me. don't seem to be a organic issue.
