    DAMN !!! i want this SOOOOOOoooooo badly !!!!! >.< >.<
PLEASE criticise BRUTALLY !!! I loved the previous crit ! thanks @ lukasn

    Criticism !!
even though the topic is " a long journey ahead " . it might have a negative connotation attached to it due to the word " long " .... but i want to kind of spin that around !
you know , to kind of show the excitement a traveller would have , before a gap year of travels set for around the world or a journey where the length of it makes it worth the while , such as before trekking into some spectacular scenery ....
there is that excitement !! that want to explore ...
im going to add little dwellings in the mid ground and background now and the people later on to make it more of a "Scene" than a "landscape " next ...

what do you guys think ??? it will really help if you guys comment about anything at all

Great to see that everybody is going crazy about this thread!! Heres an alteration of my previous ones.

Merl1n: looks incredible!! dont want to be a spoiler..and dont want to pretend that my opinion matters whatsoever (especially when you see my crappy work), but I was wondering where's the long journey?

ThomD, your opinion does matter! I wanted to depict journey of one man (the one in the center, we see him in 3rd person) through crowded city. I wanted to convey a feeling that we have long way to walk. There is a little sign on one of the central skyscrapers in the background which says "end". That was supposed to help too. Thanks anyway, I will make one more update before this contest closes and I will try to reinforce the concept.

I like your image very much btw!

A long journey ahead - I decided to go with a futuristic city environment, where the journey is going on holiday. People take vacations and go on cruise ships, visiting space and nearby planets. I have set up a model for the main elements, and played with some different angles. 3 & 6 are my favourites, i think 3 at night with uplighting to the hull could look dramatic. I'll make a start on the final tomorrow evening.

Some really interesting interpretations, hope to see tons of great work in the finals.

vibhas_virwani - I like both your images, but, my only crits would be that the horizontal brush strokes make the image look blurry. The flowers are nicely detailed and the midground will definitely read better when you add the structures and people. Goodluck.

Great paintings in here! Can't wait to see all the finals. In a way, it'll be like a great journey as a whole, not just in the winning image =)

Still, WIP, but getting closer to a finished state:

There are a lot of beautiful works going on, soI feel I should atleast try my hand at this one. I really hope I can make the deadline, but we'll see.
This is one of the thumbs I was doodling with today.

I'm not sure if I want to continue with generic floating islands. I think I should really get in touch with myself first, to give it some personal depth and something interesting.

Well this is the end of my "long journey" well until next time. Still miles away from looking like what's in my head. My scifi scene didn't really go how I wanted it to, so did a quick alternative to distract me. Good luck all, seriously impressive work in this thread.

Here is my final entry for the "A long journey ahead" topic.

The story goes like this. Aristos an adventurer of the Minoan empire has been asked by the king of the Minoan Empire to travel to the Eastern Empire of Cyprus and Syria in search of ancient knowledge. Aristos is in awe as he overlooks the beautiful islands and architecture of the minoan islands. He wonders if he will encounter a minotaur on his "Long Journey Ahead".
(For those that do not know the Minoan Empire was the oldest greek empire which was in the region of Cyprus, Crete and Rhodes. Little is known about this ancient empire which rose about 5000BC around the same time as the Sumerians. Little is known about the architecture all is known is that the Minoans worshipped the Bull God and men and women were treated as equals). I hope you all like this piece Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

@JanJager Thank you for the feed-back, appreciated.

    There are so many really some beautiful pieces here so-far. The talent here is crazy >.< I'm not quite as experienced at this as most of you, but;

@Benedikt I love the warm colouring on the rocks you have used, gives the whole image a mystical feel imo )

@slabiak I can't stop staring at yours , there's just so much to look at

    Good stuff in here.

Very nice. Like the mode and the feeling of depth. Perhaps try to let the mountains reflect more in the water and push the cleaning on the sky.

    Going for more thumbs
