Music box... of doom
WIP
I think that this could be a lot of fun, trying to capture the culture of a country or era in a music box. Im excited to start!
@Gadbury I like your idea, it could turn out quite cool. I would just like to say that the people underneath sort of make the music box seem too tall in my opinion, but maybe thats what you want. I would personally either make the music box wider to compensate for the people underneath, incorporate them into the pillars on the corners, or not have any at all. Again, these are just my thoughts, you don't need to listen to me if you'd disagree with me.
Gadbury: Good stuff man. Can't wait to see the finish product.
Here is my first sketch.

And here is my finished product but I'm willing to come back and make changes.

These are both totally awesome... I'm going to start working on an entry as well. I did a few CoW contests, but my skills weren't honed enough, and since I love all things industrial and mechanical, IDW seems more suited towards what I feel I can do. I will post my WIP soon! Cheers!
sweet stuff guys, here's my take

Nice work Howie! My one suggestion would be to maybe vary where to you apply whatever texture you have over the whole box and show the materiality of all the different parts a bit more. Right now the one overall texture is flattening your image a lot, mostly because it is extremely similar to the bg texture.
thanks Pixie Trick really appreciate it, good points I worked on it a little more and gave the wood a more woody texture and I removed the noise layer which I think was contributing to the flattening out. New image is in my original post.
Vorga - that's a cool idea but I wish you would make the lid look a little more solid, at the moment it looks flimsy like cardboard.
Crap, just saw this challenge yesterday and then realized deadline is coming up. Here's what I got so far:
