    the rilley method

hi im a self taught artist and well, ive done my fair share of reading on the various methods alot of artist like to take their work, particulary im a big fan of vilppus and hamptons construction methods and also michael mattesi´s way of show the forces within the shape, but the other day i found about this method and been trying frantically to search unsuccesfully of course so here is my question.

if any of you know of this method what is it that makes it different of the others? and where could i find some more info about it, plus id really like to hear another persons oppinion on this subject

You'll probably want to watch this video from Stan Prokopenko.
Edit : As I remembered later, and pointed out by others this is a Loomis based vid. I'll leave it here anyway because it's usefull, and 'kinda related.

Good stuff but not Reilly. He is using the Loomis Ball Shape construction.

Yeah was going to comment on that too, but didn't. The overlap between the two shown in a lot of demos is somewhat confusing (not the video linked, but others). For whatever reason I find the Riley emphasis on the planes to be a easier to understand.

I'm not trying to be a smartass but I thought 'measuring' in '2d' was shunned here, with all the emphasis on 'structural building.

You thought incorrectly. One doesn't preclude the other.

You can (and should) use sight measurement to inform your structural building.

I'm not particularly disposed to the Reilly abstraction for figure work but if you're interested this book is literally the only source I've ever found that really spells it out in much detail: http://www.amazon.com/Mastering-Draw...=jack+fargasso

Written by a former Reilly student.
