New work and Inspired Art from the workshop

Hello,

It's been awhile since I have posted, but got very inspired after attending the workshop in Austin. Met tons of crazy artists and made some really good friends. Wes, Lono, Davi, Joel, Sean, Marko, Coro, JP, Pete, the list goes on and on. My head is still spinning from the whole experience. I learned a lot and now I am back just trying to produce the best artwork possible.

Personal thanks to Wes for being a great roomate and showing me how to draw. Thanks to Marko for being insane and knowing how to make me feel alive. And Lono...dude... my gut is still busting. Davi, you too! And the biggest thanks to Jason Manley for creating such a great experience and all those whom are responsible for the workshop.

Ok, to the art. Here are some new pieces of artwork along with some sketches from the Austin Workshop. Hope you dig. Looking forward to seeing everyone's art and photos!

Oh how I wish I had the money to go...
I mean.. I am so so close to Austin (Houston) that I just kick myself constantly for not being able to go!

Toaster---> I need to paint more, but happy to hear that my sketches have life to them. You were in Dallas and could not go to the workshop? Well the next time around, you should definitely try to attend

donkeyslayer---> I was so close to throwing that drawing away... but Wes told me to keep hammering away on a piece until it works. That drawing really evolved alot after my plane going back to San Francisco was delayed by a couple of hours.

bRyaN---> Yeah man, it was cool hanging out and chillin. The best part of the workshop was going out, shooting the shit with other artists, and sketching. Ah yeah

After this round of sketches, the next step is to paint them. JP gave me some good advice to use.

Lunch with you guys was great, it was cool talking with and learning from you. Quesadillas all around...

Happy that you liked those. After I attended the workshop, I started to think about what I had learned and saw. Different approaches to different styles. Marko really blew me away with his relaxed style of drawing and knowledge. And I really dug the fact that he could draw each character in some extreme poses and understand how the body worked.

Wes also said something that really hit home... just gotta push my drawings further. Drawing the same positions and same body poses is being safe. Be daring and draw more action. So that is what I am trying to do... add more life and character to each drawing.

strych9ine---> It was cool hanging. Damn good quesadillas. Over the past year, I have stepped away from digital and gone back to traditional. The better I become with traditional will just make my digital stuff stronger...at least I hope.

PhilHolland---> Nice to meet you too. BTW, dig the site. Love looking at the photos you took. Got a keen eye.

FIG---> Yeah, the last drawings were the most recent. So I am going to continue to explore that mindset and style.

Great shit! Being more familiar with your past digital works, it's great to see stuff like this from you. I think you were passing a portfolio around at one point and I was surprised at some of the stuff in there. Such a great variety!

It was good chattin with ya during the fire dancer, even if it was only for a few minutes.

i really like one of the small ones in that last page... the top most middle one... would love to see you work that one up larger and more in depth

Wes! Same here man, cannot wait for the next time to hang. And yes, you did help out allot... even if you did not know it. It was refreshing to see your sketch book and life drawings. And it made me realize how much I have been ignoring life drawing rather than embracing it.

I definitely have plans to take some of these further, but I jumped the gun and posted them aways. After I finish some of these up, I will probably post them again.

fukifino---> Yeah, most people did not have a clue that I could sketch or do concept art. While it's not as strong as my digital works, I am working hard to improve my traditional skill set. And I am super guilty of not sticking to one medium.... always gravitating to whatever inspires me. Good and bad at the same time. Keeps me fresh, but I am not a specialist in one area.

Yeah, that fire dancer was damn fine. It was cool chatting.

Summer Pudding---> Thanks man! I am spending more time drawing tons of rough sketches trying to find characters...pushing the body poses and hoping to find something unexpected. Like the blob body dragon, hoping to draw him up larger.

tyboogie---> I am overwhelmed with how much everyone likes the last page of sketches. It just makes me realize how often I need to push my poses more and be more daring!

blurry6---> GOod pic, but what is the deal with the 'finger condom'? Kinda makes the whole picture seem creepy especially with the girlie drawing on the monitor.

Hee hee,...I didn't think of that, but if you'd have been at the lecture you'd of seen Dan put this little foam-ring on his middle-finger. As he says, "I draw soooo much that my hand/fingers start to hurt after a while, so I use this little foam ring, I call it my 'finger condom' to help me out". I guess it kinda acts like those big-handled utensils they make for the disabled and arthritic people, so they don't have to grip tiny little handles,...

In any case, it was kinda funny so I thought I'd throw it in,...

Marko---> What can I say? I am flattered that you were inspired by my earlier works. :god: Honestly man, I have to give you praise because you have truely become a great artist with style. That is the hardest thing to find... style. The last sketch page posted above is a direct result from seeing you sketch.

davi---> Nah, Wes was around us. His stardom shined like crazy. Plus I tend to hide in corners when I draw(don't want anybody to see me make a mistake).

blurry6---> Ah gotcha. Yes, I did succeed in missing Dan's storyboard lectures. Kinda bummed out that I did not see him do his thang.

cthomp--->Sweet! I am trying to be more observant when it comes to surface textures. Well... I might be on the right track

cire600---> I cannot help it, I'm fascinated with weird and creepy things. The plan is now to take some of these sketches further and try to paint a couple. JP's demo gave me the crazy idea of painting them traditionally. If they work out well, I will make sure to post them. :fruit:

You know Bomba,...that image of Dan I did really started to bug me after your comment,...You're right,...without knowing about the seminar you'd think it was a little perverted - not what I was going for. I changed it to a little,...I 'X'd the finger-condom and added a Bowman,...nothin' wrong with a bowman,...
