    Clu's Sketchbook of Randomness

Hi everybody! I'm Clu. I only recently found this website and I'm absolutely in love with the whole community here (the awesome attitude and work ethic).

I'm 16 and have been drawing for a long time but only recently started really seriously trying to improve my art. I REALLY REALLY REALLY want some good criticism and tips and whatever you can give me.
I'm most comfortable in pencil and colored pencil, but I've also done a limited amount of oil painting and really want to learn more about digital art. I tend to draw faces a lot and I have problems with anatomy and suck at landscapes and basically everything else so I'll need to work on those too.

So here goes with some of the stuff I've been doing recently:

Some are WIPs while others are slightly more finished. I'll try to upload some sketches and study stuff later but for now PLEASE as much feedback as you can give me

Some attempts at composition study (which I have never tried before so I sort of fail at). I seriously dislike the colors of the one on the left but you know, half of what this sort of thing is for is figuring out what doesn't work right?
And another wip that I started during the hurricane. The anatomy is sort of weird...

And a quick thing from my head since I'm sort of in love with this kind of sunny stuff combined with atmospheric perspective but don't get to do this much...

    Ah thanks so much!!!!
I've been a bit busy with SATs and general life, but now I should start having some time to do some actual work
Also yesss sinix was actually extremely helpful when I was just starting out with digital painting around half a year ago.

Some reaally quick sketches I did while in a concert. The pianist was amazing and super expressive which was fun to draw.

    Hey! thanks for the comment+crit,

The work in the first post looks pretty solid, accurate proportions and distances on the portraits. I can tell you've good observational skills. One thing I would look out for is your line economy. If we look at your last post you seem to use an abundance of lines, especially where the expressive sketches are concerned. Generally, the less lines you use to communicate an idea, the better. Keep on drawing

^yep exactly! That's what my drawing teacher always says
I think it's a combination of general lack of confidence plus my coordination isn't as good as it should be. More exercises!
I also have been trying to make myself draw in pen more so I can't just erase whenever I want to get rid of excess lines.

    Thanks

Your traditional work is absolutely stunning! You have a lovely style as well! All I can say is to keep practicing and draw constantly. You'll see improvement in your work in no time! Oh, also practice with digital painting and try to improve on giving your digital works a finished look(?) This thread has some nice tips on how to give your digital work a smooth, finished look.

I hope that helps! Keep up the amazing work~

@CoffeeMustache THIS IS WHY I LOVE YOU GUYS You can identify my problems (that took me ages to figure out) and point me to help just like that! Absolutely awesome all of you.

Did a bunch of sketches from life (as in I creepily stared at people and didn't pay attention in school):
I JUST FIGURED OUT HOW TO DO THIS ON PAINTER. LIKE COLORING IN SKETCHES. THIS IS SO FUN AND AMAZING.

And made some progress on Pan. BUT I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT COLOR TO MAKE HIS...CLOAK THINGY. The background was done with a photo I took in Arches National Park as a ref.

Stayed up really late last night doing fanart for Skyfall because Q is awesome the end. This one's pretty low quality since I'm not at my actual computer. I'll upload a better version later.

Argh I've been so busy recently and finally it's Thansgiving! Still haven't drawn much in between unfortunately and the stuff that I did draw is scattered all over random school papers.
Anyway, some random stuff I did in school. The proportions are super derp on some of them *coughthemiddleonesandthatgreenguy* but it's something!

blah I really haven't had time to do any serious at studying for a while because of life and school, but anyway, here's a very unrealistic/stylized doodle thing I did in English.
I'm probably going to try to make it into something but I definitely should be getting back to not-stylized stuff.

So wow I haven't been on here in forever and truthfully I haven't drawn much in that time either which is sad...
The stuff I have drawn isn't really study-drawing stuff either so now I feel even more guilty but anyway:

very nice portraits, i would like to see you plain with emotion more now since you are getting more comfortable with the features also let the pose speak, everything must click together in a piece to make it really solid and make an strong enough argument that gets your point across (whether that argument its a feeling, a situation, a mood or a character its up to you) also hands can be very VERY expressive use them to your advantage to pull more leverage in the piece, keep it up i love your line ots so loose and pretty!

I love how graphic and simple this is, and yet still manages to capture a feel of volume. This is really nice.

I'm new here and could always use some advice / criticism. Feel free to take a peak at my sketchbook if you have the time.
