You have a nice collection of works so far. I would suggest that you take time to do value studies. I think it will help you with your portraits because you could push the darker values even more. This will really help to make your subjects stand out with the increased contrast.

Lots n lots of character variation in here that is good. I see you like doing portraits a lot, so perhaps
try practicing head construction more. I don't sense that confident linework in your art right now.

@M.Alphonso- Thank you! I think you're definitely right. I did a value study this time, and I want to do more b/c I think you're right--I need to push it.

Hey, this is one sweet sketchbook you have here. Lots of fun here and great variety. I think you are getting a lot of good advice here. Try to stay around 50% imagination and 50% life/reference, sort of like what you've done so far. I find that this is the most effective approach to improving your drawing skill.

With your imagination drawings, really try to apply the knowledge you learn from studies and books. You can still do silly sketches, but it will be great for you if you put good effort into some of them.

@nexuun- I think you're definately right--most of the imagination stuff I do is dumb headshots, so I think i should try to stop being afraid and expand a bit. Also, thanks for commenting!

Ahhh!!! Lots more referenced this time. When it comes to semi-referenced, mostly it means it's mostly study but it turned into a homestuck or mulan character, hahah.

Haven't been here in a while, but I can see you've definitely improved some. Just keep working on your constructions for your figures and trying to understand simple forms in space.

Hey, your referenced faces are looking stronger recently, the eyes especially.

I notice you have some problems that recur pretty frequently, though. Using the painting of that Homestuck (I think? The girl with the blue glasses, anyway) character from your previous post as an example, you often have some pretty glaring problems of proportion, limbs being completely different lengths especially. I redlined the specific issues in that piece, I hope you don't mind. I think if you spend more time constructing your figures, stepping back and looking for mistakes, you'll be able to shake this problem pretty quick.

Another issue with that piece is that the figure lacks volume. The left forearm and the legs are alright, but her breasts and belly read as almost completely flat, like they were cut out of paper or something. It's a bit disconcerting. I've done my own version of same figure with slightly less awkward lighting to show you what I mean.

Really, I think a lot of your problems could be solved by taking a bit more time to plan, and to check your work as you go.

Looks like you are keeping busy! That is definitely a good thing. Nothing but good can come from pumping work out like this. And it shows. Your line work and forms are coming out better and better. Keep it up!

@Clur-- You're definately right about all that. I'll take figures slower from now on, trying to check anatomy. I can be too quick. Also, thank you for pointers with the redline and painty thing.
