Just another study. This dumb painting on it looked super ugly so I left it out. Furthermore I forgot to put in the cast shadow but then I was too tired of it to spend the time

I like your zombie characters, but I'm not a big fan of the smooth gradient backgrounds, If you suck at backgrounds like I do, just do some dusty cloudy shapes that resemble some forms.

Two weeks ago I decided to study seriously one of these anatomy books that are around and I ended up with Loomis. So Im overworking all these bits and pieces of my anatomy knowledge from the very basis on, starting with proportion and so on. I can just recommend this for everybody that wants to do learn more about anatomy, Loomis is great! Besides that I was working on some concept for an illustration that came to my mind 3 days ago.

Here are some of the loomis studys that I did within the last weeks. When I started with proportions I really screwd it up and I felt like I used to when I was just starting out and couldnt do anything. But after one day things went better and already now I see the progress that I achieved by studying this very basics. Now with the knowledge from the book I recognized that the proportions of my characters really sucked before Im looking forward to all those great lessons inside of the book! Right now Im studyieng the Mannikin frame.

love the inuit shaman, theres something about the pose and angle that really brings this guy to life and makes him look more tangible.

I love these studies, really correct looking forms there. The two last value studies look great too though some of the highlights aren't as bright as in the reference, I should try doing longer ones like that too. On the study of the woman's face, the light color is way too cold and the edges of the jaw and hand look a bit soft and "fiddled", try to use single sweeps on distinct edges like that.

Good dedication with the studies, keep them coming!

EDIT: Oops, I missed the second page... With "two last studies" I meant the ones on post 29 and 30. Nice Loomis Mannequins too!

@Marcoferringo: Thx man! glad you like it! I can happily say that the position of the figure construct was a lot easier for me then before my loomis studys so they really help me already, but I had a pretty hard time trying to come up with a design for the clothing.

More gesture drawings from mind. Its so hard but I think the efforts show a few results I also peeked in the next chapter of my loomis book and started to do some muscle studys (cos its just too boring to draw lill mannikins all day long) but I try to follow the one step at a time strategy and to really learn to draw the mannikin form most angles before I deal with the next level inside the book. I would appreciate any kind of comments as usual

The one thing I notice in your recent figure studies is it feels like your treating the shoulders as solid objects. Every post they're always wide like shoulderpads when your shoulders depending on the pose can be pushed inward towards the chest or yes flexed outward.

I'd try looking in the mirror and flex around your shoulders and see the motion in them.



But besides that they're looking good.

@JFierce: Thanks for the advice! I gotta admit that I didn´t really spend attention to the movability of the shoulders yet because I was trying desperatly to manage puting a stiff manniking in persepective. Your right though I should start to think about that by now. Thanks!

More figure studys from mind. I add the bulk now to most of my drawings. I also focus on musculature now. I think one fairly good way to get more comprehenshion of the shapes and the construction of the muscles is to draw a basic sceleton arm for example and try to add the muscels on top. I hope that´s going to help with understanding which muscles are overlapping each other.

Great sketchbook! I like the color palettes that you use in your own designs. Also you're studies are impressively well done! The only thing I would say is keep an eye on the perspective in your recent figure studies because some parts of the body seems to doesnt fit perfectly with the perspective, but it's on a really good go!

More practice of muscles. I expanded my field of study on heads because always studying the same stuff gets pretty boring after a while and I anyway had to do.

your doing really well with the figure studies, have you tried having a go at drawing animals like frogs and monkeys? I think they both have similarites with human anatomy and they can test your muscle memory aswell.

There´s still a big gap between the studies from reference, and the ones from memory, i think you should do a lot more construction drawings from mind as well.

@marcoferrigno: Thanks man! No I haven´t really studied animals yet but I´ll for sure do once. Testing my muscle memory is a bit to early for me now as I´m struggeling to build on for now Thx for the advice though! It´ll for sure be interesting to have a closer look at monkeys when I have a better comprehenshion of human beeings also under the aspect of exaggeration and manipulation of the human form.

@Flaskpost: Thx for coming by again! Can you maybe point out to me which images you are refering to in particular because I´m actually doing construction drawings only right now. I want to gain a better comprehenshion of the human form to be able to build it how I wish. The two muscle guys from front and backview are for a big part from reference as I try to learn the musclegroups by hard. For some of the details I still peek in my Loomis book once in a while. Work will be kept up sir!

Some more heads. I also did some sketching again. I haven´t really done that for a long while and it reminds me on the reason why I actually do those studys. They are kind of generic but it was fun

I was unfortunately pretty unproductive the last two weeks because I was abroad but I´ll try to make up for it now. I got finally my hand on photoshop! YAY! It´s so awsome. I had to use gimp all the time before. Gimp is great if you consider that it´s a freeware but certainly now competition. I really have to get used to draw on the wacom!
