    Etchpea, sketchpea

Hello all! I am new here and still don't quite understand how this site works very well, so sorry in advance for any screw-ups.

My name is Etchpea, I'm 24 and I'm just about to finish college for illustration, but I'm very intimidated because I don't feel even nearly ready to become a professional yet. I have so much to work on, it's so daunting!! Any and all comments and crits are appreciated.

Here's some stuff I already done did. Most (if not all) of them still require lots of touch-ups.

I've been attempting to do portraits of various characters of mine in my free time lately. They're still quite stylized, as I used to (and still do) draw in a very heavily anime-influenced style, but I hope I'm starting to get better with "same face" issues.

should I be resizing these more for the site? I think they might be kinda big, right?

@tabletopper, thanks so much, and you're welcome! He's not Thor, but if I made a movie and his character was in it (yeah, right!), I'd get Chris Hemsworth to play him.

oops, sorry it's been a while! I had a portfolio due so everything else in my life took back seat, including sleeping and eating...
almost all of this are either brainfart doodles, or halfway done. I have a terrible habit or working on a million things at once.

    thanks so much @chaos c:

I did some speedy things today.
The portrait is done without any kind of reference, everything else was photoref'd from pictures of the Isle of Skye in Scotland and the Giant's Causeway in Ireland. I miss living in the UK a lot.

edit: wowww I am really terrible at remembering to resize things... sorry about all the huge pictures!

The images in the first post look amazing! The time you spent on these (I bet it was a lot) was really worth it.

What surprises me is that some of the pieces break the high level of quality you are showing here, like they were made by Etchpea from the past. Strange proportions and a different color palette. But these are mostly the doodels, so nevermind

    Keep posting!

    Till next time.

thanks KiBa! The quality definitely fluctuates too much, the first post was all of my best stuff from last semester but then when I browsed other people's sketchbooks I realized most people posted whatever they'd drawn that day and their doodles and studies, so I thought I should do that too. I could do with a general quality boost in my stuff though...

I really love the colours in your last couple of posts. Actually, I just like your colours, full stop, that coral picture in your first post is amazing.

My one crit is that you seem to have some migrating eyes; they often don't look like they're at the same angle as the rest of the face. =)

Thanks @revidescent! I really need to work on more portraits because I've always had a hard time with faces, specifically with eye placement. Over my winter break maybe I'll make that one of the things I focus on. c:

your tonal work and mood control are out of this freaking world! and i like the experimentation going on here, some more studies of drapery or some master studies could help your rendering and bump your landscapes which are already amazing!! how long have you been drawing painting? and can you post a process of your digital stuff? thanks in advance you are awesome! post more mroe mroe please!

@lionheart, thankyou so much! I plan to do lots of landscape/still life/portrait studies as soon as the semester is over because I'm pretty desperate for the practice. I only started getting serious about my digital painting this year, at the beginning of the year I took a raster illustration class and finally started to use photoshop more. I've been doing stuff in paint tool sai for years, but never this level of painting, that was more anime-style lined stuff. I'll try to post a progress of something soon!

    @zausel, thanks so much!

I had a hard time sleeping last night, so more quick things, naturally...

Some of your pictures are looking a bit flat, i guess u should study perspective to fix that.

@spoonigan thanks so much! To be honest, I haven't worked traditionally in some time. I don't think I've done anything traditional this whole year actually that wasn't just a little sketch. I did use to work a lot with watercolors! Maybe I'll try working with more traditional stuff soon. c:

@lakai thankyou! I've definitely got to practice more landscapes, I'm bad at perspective so I always avoid city scenes... ;; maybe I should jump in and give them a go.

I'm not overly happy with any of this stuff, but for the sake of uploading here it is.

I tried to practice some portraits tonight but I only got one done (Richard Armitage) before I got totally distracted and did silly color things instead, which is pretty typical of me...
