I see that you are a real hard working dedicated artist, full
of enthusiasm and will power. Considering that you are drawing
only a year or two, your improvements are amazing and you came
a long way. A lot of work over the last six months, and I mean a lot.
I have to tell you, that you are not lost, you get frustrated from time to
time, but generally you are not lost, you just know what to do. You are
doing the right things, study vise. Some issues that you have, for example
proportions, and anatomy things, those issues are the things that most of
the artist have when they starting their career. These problems are solved
with time. Plenty of practice, patience and study time. A few months from
now, you will have new eyes instead of the old ones. You will start to
realize and see your mistakes from the earlier page, through trials and
errors, you will start to see your own improvements. And those moments
are the best when you realize how much you have improved. As I always
say, the best and most important thing is not to give up. If you don’t give
up, success is guaranteed. And not giving up means that you will still draw and
paint even from 10 or 20 years from now. Your improvements and evolution
will sometimes go slower, sometimes faster, but the most important thing is
that there will always be improvements. Finally, I would like to praise your
dedication and hard work, you are a true example to all of us. Keep up
this pace, and just as I said you cannot go wrong.

nice, I'm liking how you are organizing your values more and how you don't lose that free/fresh/loose/energetic/rhythmic flow in drawing of the non-trex (the last dinosaur sketch). well done. At the moment it looks like you have established focal color or local color... can't remember which one is the correct term, but now that you have done that you'd want to take it further and really try to push that box idea of value, making sure that your values continue to stay organized. Maybe try pushing the one I think you did the best job on to finish or as far as you can go in greyscale since you have a nice start already. The more you try finishing something the more your errors will show. But now that you have shown that you are able to control your values to set you up right for a long drawing, you can continue the process of adding more values and controlling those. Of course you don't have to do what I'm suggesting though. have fun and do what you think you'd like to work on. and keep up the hard work! gogogoggoogogogogo

It's awesome seeing a like minded fellow on the boards! I am going to keep checking over this sketchbook, one thing I can add is to make a lot of sketches of your own hand and try to apply Bridgman's simplified shapes to constructing your own hand. I think it'd be awesome if we could compete somehow! Just keep posting

Great work! I'm also doing figure study with Loomis now =]
You're efforts already begin to pay of - there's visible improvement in your works. You're improving with color as well, judging from you're screen cups.
Keep it up - you're a great inspiration for all the lazy bums like me!! XD

So for the dinosaur drawing there's a lot to keep in mind.. The focal color or local color... forgot which it is.. (they may be the same thing) seems to be tripping you up. When this happens you can rethink how you are going to approach the drawing when done as a study. Approach the drawing as a sculpture instead of what you are actually seeing. Ya know how the sculptures done by Bernini only show values and have no focal color? You can approach seeing forms this way and it will help you interpret the forms easier. It's a learning process as with most things but it is incredibly useful. So my advice for you would be to ignore focal color at the moment and reinterpret what you are seeing more as form. It will look like a sculpture but it is a true test to apply lighting and form. If you'd like to warm up and learn this process before applying it to something, do some studies of Bernini's sculptures. Many classically trained artists were trained doing cast studies to understand this principle. I think we should follow along in that tradition! They seemed to know what they were doing. Also, for the foot... here are my notes: Name: helping elise feet.jpg
Views: 158
Size: 259.9 KB I was quite impressed with your feet drawings from imagination. well done... but I think you really nailed it with the one with notes. If you wanted to take it further you could add more values.. but always keep in mind the box and carefully organized values! well done man, keep it up!

Looking good! Now for your gestures I think your concentrating more on structure rather than capturing the movement and rhythm. I suggest you read michael mattessi's book Force: Dynamic life drawing for animators as well as Vilppu's Drawing Manual. It will really make your gestures more dynamic and fluid.

aw man, that sucks. so sorry. I had a scare today that my dog was about to die because he ate too much. He snuck into the treats crate and just about ate as much as his stomach could hold. He looked like a balloon afterwards. funny but scary. good thing our friend who is a veterinarian was coming over that night and took him into the clinic. he's back home miserable as ever now. He's fine though. I hope that you can find another good pet, who obviously won't replace that dog, that you can have new experiences with. looking forward to what the future has in store.

P.S. thanks for posting that new fzd video, i would have caught it another month from now since he hardly updates (but when he does the information is really awesome!)
