"Alla Prima — Everything I know About Painting" by Richard Schmid

Hi,

This may be a little bit off topic here, but I didn't really know where else to post this.

I've come across a ton of people recommending this book, and after skimming through a digital version that I had gotten my hands on, I was really convinced the book would be well worth the money.

I just received the book from Amazon yesterday, and I'm extremely disappointed with the print quality! Throughout the book the illustrations seem to be lacking richness, vibrancy, and intensity of color and contrast!

I really had my expectations high from what others had said about the book and what I had seen in the digital version which, as far I could tell, was actually just a scan someone had made — not to mention the price of the book…!

Perhaps, I just received a bad copy…? Or perhaps I was just tricked by my computer screen…? Regardless, I'm sadly considering returning the book for a refund...


I'm really curious to hear what experiences others might have had with this book!

I also have the tenth printing, but my copy seems to have good print quality. I got mine through Schmid's website.

Well if the print quality is bad return it through Amazon and request another one.

It is not a step by step how to paint book. His first books were mostly in black and white. I have both of them and looking at the pictures is a bonus; the worth of the book is the information written by Schmid about painting.

I guess I wasn't as fortunate... I got a refund from Amazon, though, so now I'll try getting the book directly from Richard Schmid's website. Thanks for link!

I completely agree! Still, it's an expensive book and I would expect the print quality to be corresponding.
