    Kanda's Sketchbook

Hi, I'm Kanda. I discontinued my other sketchbook because it was unorganized and all over the place. Here's my new sketchbook thread which I hopefully will be able to update daily. Constructive criticism is appreciated.

Hey, looks like you practice a lot, which is great! I definitely suggest anatomy studies, either from books geared towards that, or references found online (something like this; here is a list of more refs).

Also, try getting more confident with your pencil/pen strokes. Try to stop yourself from executing so many scritchy scratchy markings, and perhaps use more of your arm.

    Keep drawing!

Bridgman studies with one of those rainbow pencils, studies and notes from Vilppu's Drawing Manual and doodles while on the bus home (it was a very bumpy ride, hence the extra shaky lines).

Dear You; Wonderful book here. I see lots of anime influence here. And if I may, Did I sense a bit of a Hinata inspired hair cut and character in the beginning posts? Lol. Like how fluent you allow your imagination to be.

Studies are looking very good. You are on the right track for sure. My only advice is advice that I am currently working on. that is Make every line count. Understand why you put a line here and not there. Take a few moments when studying something to really absorb what shape you are about to draw. Also Draw more life as imagination is great but you must build a visual library to draw correctly from imagination. KEEP IT UP!!!!

Uwahh Kanda very productive sketchbook here! you seem very determined to improve!
I would probably advise to bit the bullet and invest in some artbooks
a book I can recommend is 'atlas of the human anatomy for the artist' by stephen rogers peck. I see you have a book by bridgman though.
Another two I havent used yet but could probably say I should go through them are andrew loomis' books "figure drawing for all its worth" which I believe you already have, and "drawing the head and hands"
really when it comes to these books it's all about HOW you use them. When you do a study, once is never enough you must drill them like exercises, like on my page you saw the same arm being repeated over and over, starting them off as gestures and each time I would add in a extra bit of detail in the anatomy.
implement some gesture poses into your routine if you haven't already. check out
www.posemaniacs.com and make it a daily routine to do the 30second gesture drawings and then in the same sitting do the 90second which allows you to define the shapes further.
then there is also the life drawing tool. google pixel lovely life drawing tool.

    best of luck Kanda!

Hmm you're doing an admirable amount of work, keep sticking with those fundamentals. They will take you far, and they are the most important. Your colours do need work, so maybe try to invest some more time into painting or whatever. Anyway, keep it up.

    The rendered girl! Lovely drawing!

Glad you implementing the sketches into your routine Coupled with the knowledge of anatomy and rendering on human form, they will do wonders in a brief amount of time!
a good day for me would be something like Gesture sketches of 30 and 90 seconds.
then repetition of Anatomy studies, and then do value studies. You can either focus in on an area like the torso and smash out renders or do the whole figure.
personally (and I should do this myself now that i think about it) I think you learn more when you hone in on areas rather than rendering a whole figure. too many things to think about, isolation and repetition.
if you DO a whole figure study, i'd say afterwards hone in on an area of the study and just observe the shadows and render it out quickly.

    example:

    hopefully makes sense.
I'm self taught so please do take everything I say with some salt, as I could be wrong, question everything you hear, but I think things that are true and relevant to you will scream at you "Hey this is correct! do me!" lol
    keep busy

Hey Kanda, you are doing all the right things and there is already visible some progress! These anatomy studies are good, because even when you want to draw manga style which is heavily stylized, you need to have real anatomy knowledge to do so. Also do a ton of these circles and straight line trainings as is #14. Maybe start with some circle template and try to trace it to give your muscles some starting ground, and when you'll feel comfortable, try doing them without the guide. It will really improve your line quality. Anyway good stuff here, keep it coming!
My sketchbook - Please, help me grow Critique very appreciated

Sweet sketchbook! Haha It was really fun to look through. There's a lot of variety in here and last but not least ANIME! So you automatically get like 100 cool points just for that. The slight messiness in here is nice too because it shows that you aren't afraid to experiment and to "dirty" up a sketchbook page or two. I envy your looseness and freedom! My advice, would be to keep working through Loomis (I think I saw him in here??) and Bridgman but make sure when you do you aren't just copying the pictures but soaking in the words and trying to understand what they are telling you. Also, lets see some more still lives! Anyway, keep up the productivity!

Thanks for posting in my sketchbook!

Wow you are obviously working hard! You have a really cute style, and the studies you've been doing I think are really helping to develop your style further. Keep it up! Would be nice to see more colour work next

Finally got to looking at your whole sketchbook. Wow, I'm jealous of the amount of work you put in! Your pages on anatomy with the notes actually helped me, too.
I also really like the landscape sketches you did, and I agree with anivy, some colour work would be cool to see

Nice sketchbook, Kanda Your hard work is already starting to pay off. Just keep on studying those fundamentals, even if you want to draw manga. Knowing them will make life easier when you stylize your art.
