Okay, I'm sorry if I stepped on your toes. I'll keep working on the character then, while you finish the environment.

Apropos the character, I'd really appreciate it if anyone would come with crits etc. Any thoughts about how he looks right now, are we going in the right direction or should he look entirely different?

zelda_geek : if you work on the character i will have the creature design done by this coming friday then, makes it easier on me to just do that then.

also i like the character the design is great i would however make him more muscly and maybe
leave his chest open/exposed with tribal tattoos on it??? just an idea its all in your hands LOL

    Hey guys,

so I've been working on the illustration - unfortunately, after logging about 5 hours in, I accidentally deleted it without saving - that's the first time I've done that since I can remember- I'm usually so good with saving! :'( Anyway, here's the second go around - it's in progress, obviously, I'm gonna work on it some more today and try to get it in as finished as I can. I don't do many pieces with backgrounds and full atmosphere, so this probably isn't up to standard, but I'm trying to improve.

Also, I realize it's awfully sunny and bright colors, I usually darken and change the colors with adjustments when I'm closer to being finished and have merged more of the layers.

Anyway, sorry again for the quality, but I'm kind of new to full blown battle illustrations. And it is in progress, I don't intend to keep the upper half of he dragon or the guardian or the alien or the ships in the state they are in, and I hope I have time to polish up everything else.

(p.s., if anyone wants to try a paintover, go for it)

Ok here's another WIP shot - I changed the values and colors a bit, and I really like these colors better - I had to merge all layers to change the colors/values, though, so I guess it's on to final bits now - plus, I know that Alien needs work, but I'm pretty sleepy.

hey there Saramel, pretty cool work you've done.

here is a quick paint over with some ideas for you.
i don't really want to criticize you, i'm liking the final colors you went with.
i think this image has a lot of potential, also the creatures legs, pose the same
problem for me as for you so i tried some foreshortening.
also watch cast shadows, i think the ships would have some,

hopefully i can post mine tomorrow guys.
Trespasser, the left side seems to empty maybe add a village there in the far distance like i tried with this paint over?!

    Final
(I don't really like it, though. Maybe I should have left the enviro to someone else)

Saramel, try to think over the lighting. It's unclear where the light source is. I would leave only one light source — lights of the alien ship, because this would create more drama :) Also, the alien figure isn't very convincing. It looks too weak for an enemy, and too small compared to the wasp. The best thing to do is to make the monster gigantic and decrease in size the guardian (and his mount), that'd make a nice contrast between them two.

    P. S. AdrianNagorski, just saw your post. I had added more negative shapes to the left, hope it doesn't seem so empty now :)
