    doodeedoodeedummm....

here are some cd cover ideas for a friend. i was shooting in the dark with these, just kinda going where my heart led me...
this one was done in my sketchbook, same old technique, but in addition, i added spraypaint as well, for that stippled look, not too much to this one, just more of a rendering and compostional exercise...

this one was done from life, then scanned and taken into painter, where i added the graphical elements. i used spraypaint on this one too. its nice to iincorporate new things and experiment...

and lastly, this one wasdone all in painter. i wanted to do kind of an homage to cornwell and nc wyeth, whose works i absolutely adore. i sketched ithe boy in pencil, scanned it, and rendered it using the digital airbrush tool, trying to render more in facets this time around. this one took about a day off and on, and was fun to work on as well..

hope you guys like em...see you in austin...-c36

Great stuff old boy. You have a distinctive style, but it doesn't hamper the reach of your ideas, in the same way Bill Sienkiewicz's work doesn't.

    bravo

    more great stuff!
the first one reminds me of both barnacles and jet engines, two things I've never thought of together. I love the gas mask, good rendering with trademark coro grafitti scroll and complimentary color scheme.

the boy watching the sunset is more challenging, it's outside your usual work (for one, he's not a murdering zombie, the way your kids tend to be) and the palette is unusual. But I do think it captures the colors you see if you are looking directly towards the sun before it sets.

    These are great coro.

The last one is my favorite. Without you even mentioning cornwell, its the first artist the piece made me think of.
(the one thing that sorta bothers me is the floor he's standing on, it looks to photoshopish, when comparing it to the rest of the painting)

One of these days im going to go down to S.F and spend a day or two with you. I have so much to learn...

Awesome like usual. That little boy one I really like, it gives me the sense of innocense. Bartender can I have acouple of shots of El Coro's work.

    these are beautiful man
the texture you achieved on the first 3 is quiet nice! question: what kind of spray paint did you use? id like to be able to get a gritty look like that in some of my pieces.

i also like the kid alot, very nice colors and a very cool almost surreal look to it, well done =)

    oh boy replies replies!

James Kei: aw shit man...thanks so much. that really means alot coming from you, as i deeply respect your work

imglue: thanks bro. the workshop is gonna be alot of fun. i got the mask on ebay, its an israeli gasmask i bought new for 25 bucks a couple years ago. i had it hanging in my studio, and one day decided to draw the damn thing.

Jason Manley: thanks gee. you know im down. im sure ill be demoing my ass off. see u in a couple weeks bro.

Skank: thanks. i used montana alien paint for these. its transparent, so i dont lode the drawing too much. i dont know how easy it is to get alien, i know one of the owners of montana, and he hooked me up.
big up to my boy jase from ba crew!!!

    MIKECORRIERO: thanks

Loga4: and thank you as well sir!

strych9ine: hehe, yeah its a good day on ca today. lots of eyecandy being posted.

TARGETE: you alright! i learned it by watching you!

Sok N. Wett: thanks yo. more to come very soon. i promise.

    Stray: thanks to u too.

I.was.ink: thanks. as far as the last one, i didnt want to render it too much, keep it more of a broad direct application, more like cornwells stuff. look at his brushwork, its very faceted. admittedly, it looks a bit photoshopish, but seeing as i did it in painter, thats something, right?

bwkeough: thanks man. the first one was very stream of consiousness. i can totally see the jetengine barnacle thing. as for the last one, it was loads of fun to do cuz it was different. i love experimenting and taking chances. keeps it fresh.

    stormeffex: thanks

Summer Pudding: thanks man. thats a lofty comparison. i love Sienkiewicz alot. hes one of my favorite illustrators working today. i draw alot of inspiration from his stuff. but i wont be on his level for another 20-25 years probably

Dom: thanks. the spraypaint was kind of a happy accident. i tried it first on the gasmask, cuz it weas looking like shit, and it ended up saving it, and kicking open a door to many new levels of possibilities, i think.

Marko Djurdjevic: thanks sweetie. you always write so many nice things about me. your check is in the mail;P

thanks again to everyone who replied. you guys keep me going. whenever im working on something these days, i always think to myself" i hope this comes out okay so i can post it" -c36

WOW! THe rendering is beautiful on the first two - they really pop.

I definately see Parrish (my very fav painter!!) color sensability in the 3rd one but you made it very unique with a stylized/illustrative touch. Very cool.

Id still love to see a demo in oil!!!! PS i cant make it to austin so....... pawwwwweeeeeeeeeez, with sugar on top!!!!

Really beautiful stuff, something about the kid staring off into the sky is very powerful. Spraypaint seems to work pretty damn when used this way.

The third one ... I hope the little boy isn't going to jump. He looks like he is saying good-bye to the world and hello to GOD. Please tell me he lives.

Can't ever go wrong with a gas mask. Well done, little man.
