    Composition Studies

After getting tons of critiques that I didn't know composition I decided to tackle it and keep a notebook of my progress.

I finally decided to post it to see if anyone else might find it helpful.

Most of the lessons are from Understanding Movies by Louis Giannetti and Framed Inkby Marcos Mateu-Mestre with a few other lessons here and there by other artists, I'll try to post their names as I remember them, to give credit where it is due.

I know most of the drawings are simple, and intentionally so. I wanted to focus on the composition rather than the drawings so mistakes in one wouldn't confuse the other.

I'll post more as they are finished.

The most beautiful thing we can experience is the
mysterious. It is the source of all true art and all
science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who
can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe,
is as good as dead: his eyes are closed.

Try working in 3 or 4 values*, using a few sharp and blunt soft pencils**. You can do lots of little thumbnail studies this way, of master works and churning through your own ideas for abstracts and realistic pieces.

***If you're going to do an underdrawing first, make your marks light, so that they're easy to erase or don't need to be erarsed.
