I'm a hungry shark that feeds on your C&C !

Hi! I'm 18 and I've been a long time lurker here at CA.org and always found it inspiring to see people starting from scratch, honing their skills and then after years of practice making their living as an artist. Seeing the progress of people like Algenpfleger, Sam Carr and Miles really hit me and was sort of a wake up call for me. They've proven to me that anything is possible if I put my mind into it and stay dedicated. So I've finally decided to start my own sketchbook since I now have a scanner and possess mediocre painting skills. I'm also going to start attending a life drawing class in the fall. My current weaknesses are color and doing stuff from imagination. This thread will be updated regularly and showcase my journey towards awesomeness. As a heads up I will be uploading tons of stuff I've done for the past four months so don't be alarmed if you think I'm practicing like a madman. Stay tuned!

Nice start but I think your studies are looking very clean and tight and I think you could do more studies if you would draw a bit looser and faster without so much preasure. keep it up! greetings

Bear with me, loose stuff is coming up. The chinese numbers just indicate which Structure of Man lesson I'm on. I know that people hate Riven Phoenix's videos over here and I can see why. They were super boring and repetitive. The reason why I did all of them was because I had bought those videos ages ago and felt like I had to go through them. Plus at that time I needed a solid foundation in anatomy. Anyway, here's more boring anatomy stuff:

Damn you do a lot of anatomy stuff!
All the important details are in there like structure, line passes and nice flow.
The proportions however is not always on point.
You should focus more on getting the measurements right in a very rough sketch first and then do all the little bumps and curves.

    Keep up the good work!

the portrait is a good start with defining/simplifying tones. Keep doing that for all your work. Simply. My two cents.

Xelar Yeah I know I do a lot of anatomical studies but that's just because I want to get a good grasp on it before I start attending a life drawing class. Could you tell me exactly what proportional problems I'm having because your reply was a bit vague.

poetry man I'm having such a hard time with skin tones so greyscale is the way to go for me at this time. It's funny that my still lifes are getting gradually better but painting skin tones is still right next to impossible for me. MUST PRACTICE MORE

I think the stuff you just posted is a good example for what I meant.
The proportion of upper arm - forearm - hand is different in every sketch.
You tend to make hands too small in particular
The head muscle studies show that you lack knowledge of the bone structure underneath. The hinge of the jaw is located just in front of the ear. The teeth can't possibly be parallel when the jaw opens.

    Hope that helps!

< 3. Thank god someone is enjoying them. I'm doing Bridgman at the moment and it's becoming so tiresome and boring after doing a ton of other anatomy studies. I guess you're right: I have to start incorporating the things I've learned from those studies into my personal projects. Continuing my quest of uploading my old work here, here's stuff I've done from life:

Great job on the amount of studies! your life drawings is good too keep that up and youll see improvement for sure. I also really started here after seeing miles sketchbook and the improvement from one point to the other showed me its really just a question of practice and sticking to it.

Stephane Perez Keep in mind that the reason why there's so many studies is because they're a couple of months old. I'm anxiously waiting for fall because that's when all the life drawing classes begin here in Tampere and I can finally put all my skills to the test.

You need to be less synthetic in your color study, and more exact on your anatomy study.

On this kind of stuff =>

You develop the style but you should really focus on the proportions / exact shapes of the object. It's the only point of an anatomical drawing.

For the color study you need the get more in the details, it's too synthetic, there is a lot more color in the world, concentrate on it Cm² by Cm². For exemple a shadow will never be that flat. You cannot just put black on 50% opacity :p too easy.

Note your synthetic style work well on the glass here => http://i1255.photobucket.com/albums/.../Life-0011.jpg

    Keep it up!
