Smile I have wasted my Hours

EDIT 4/14/2013: Check out the second page for new stuff! :> The words below I wrote last year so disregard.

    --

Hello there! I am a high schooler who just completed sophomore year. I turned 16 in April and my dream is to be either a concept artist, illustrator, or animator in the future.

I've been stalking a few people's CA sketchbooks for quite a while now, but today I've decided to join in.

So... I hope you enjoy my sketchbook, and I absolutely love feedback! I hope I improve my art a lot by the next year.

Hey welcome to CA awesome portrait! especially when it's done by a gershtunkin' 16 year old. The hair over the forehead you can tell was done hastily as well as the neck and I think the eye on the left may be slightly off. haha way better than a portrait than I can do in photoshop, at the moment. I'd like to see more definitely.

when you work in photoshop, i recomend to use the lasso tool to do mountains, it will give you some nice sharp edges ^^

Goddayum, I'm older than you and I don't look half as good as that. XD Your work here is fantastic, whatever you're doing, keep on doing it, you're on a good path.

The only thing I'm able to point out is your structure. In some of your pieces facial structure looks like it's not really there, like the features are floating rather than connected solidly together. In your first pic I think it's the glasses that makes it look like that. Glasses are a bitch.

Update again soon, you've got some great stuff here and I, for one, want to see more.

    working on traditional stuff!

Hey there! sorry I haven't been able to update more recently, I'm taking classes at CCA and they've been helping a lot. I'm currently working on traditional art, like anatomy and such. I've always avoided drawing poses but I'm going to try to fix that this year and draw full bodies more. If anyone can give me some pointers on my anatomy (especially on my male anatomy) it would be great. And thank you so much for all the lovely comments, and yep, I'll be sure to work on my facial structure too!

I went to a figure drawing session today.. the next time I go, I'll work on hands and faces more.

Oh, and the pictures with charcoal/ink/watercolor scribbles on them is just me warming up/trying out these mediums. Not sure why I drew cartoony dragons either, but ah, here they are I guess!

    sumi ink

Dear god I need to update more. ;-; Been very busy lately with traditional art. I guess it's good to practice everything so here's something with sumi ink (or was it Indian? I forgot) I haven't used it in years! drawn from a live model

I've been working a lot on traditional art so I can catch up to my digital skill level (I think currently my digital is better than my traditional SO IT'S TIME TO PRACTICEEEEEE)

Hello! This week is the last week of pre-college, and as much as I love drawing everyday here I can't wait to get home and work on personal stuff. I've been sketching a lot too... some character designs and stuff like that.

Also with traditional art I always feel that my anatomy is pretty inaccurate? I think with digital I can check my anatomy by flipping the image on Photoshop but with traditional art that's not always possible and I feel like something is always missing.

    almost home!

as soon as I get home I think I'll do a redo of the second picture! It was done when I got sick and I wanted to finish it and make all the anatomy adjustments and make it 100% more clearer/neater/painterly but I was feeling so bad I had to get some sleep @__@

the first one I spent much longer than I had hoped it would take, (9-10 hours with watercolor and sumi ink) but at least I got it done by 10 PM... I joked around with my classmates that when I govern my own country this would be the symbol on my flag haha

God...damn, for a 16 year old those are amazing, ahaha. You're definitely on a good road, you seem to have a good idea of the kind of studies you should be doing to get better. You're already very good with the painting process itself, I suggest working on solidifying your foundations, experimenting with color, and showing some more stuff from imagination.

also, do I see some studies off of sherlock and doctor who there? I love painting those, too, ahaha. Well, I don't actually watch doctor who, but I'm a total Sherlock fangirl, ahah!

thank you so much! One of the biggest problems I think I have with drawing/painting are using different colors and putting my ideas from imagination to paper, so I'll be sure to work on that. And yep, they are! I also think that drawing my favorite actors really helped with improving my overall painting/realism skills.

thank you very much! It means a lot to get comments like these And it really depends. During the school year/weekdays sometimes I won't have time for any, but other times I'll draw for as much as 3-8 hours. During the weekdays/summer sometimes I spend at least half a day drawing before my family yells at me to get some exercise haha

    Hello ConceptArt!

I have been away for 6+ months and I am sorry for that. I fell in a deep art rut but now I'm out! My new year's resolution is to draw every day. Here's some things I've been working on or have drawn or hope to finish soon! Working on stuff from imagination and trying different colors now... And as always, help/critiques/advice are a welcome

(also I won't upload any more fan-works on here! every fan art I do can be found on my dA or tumblr)

Xcarbon: thank you so much! Always a pleasure to hear that

Alright... here's some new "draw/study something every day" pictures. I am uploading mostly digital images but I do traditional art in a sketchbook every day as well, I just need to find some I like/can scan in. right now in ap art I'm working on a self portrait and a cast model drawing so I'm pretty excited to put that up on here when I'm done

    Thank you guys!

Some more stuff. This next one was inspired by Feng Zhu's newest design tutorial on Youtube. I've always held back on practicing trees or organic material but his real time tutorials are helpful as it shows you how he starts drawing these.
(also I said I wouldn't post any fanwork on here but I do like the one I did of Mass Effect a while ago. Though I apologize about the neck)
And lastly have a quick observational drawing of my tap shoe I did over the summer

Thank you Diamandis and arestinnia! Much appreciated

So I've finally gotten around to drawing some robot/mech-like type of stuff. I've never really attempted them before and if anyone has any suggestions on how I can improve on them, I would appreciate it! Also here's some art from before that I wasn't fully satisfied with and ended up revising a bit (sorry about the neck on the Malificent-like woman there aaah I need to fix that).
