Painting/drawing on animal bone?

Sooo I am trying to do a project for a friend that requires painting/drawing onto animal bone.
I am thinking that if i prime the area first with spray-paint I should be good to go with acrylic paint, charcoal, or graphite right (as long as the medium is sealed after I would assume)?
Does anyone have any experience working on this material that could maybe give some incite? Would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

You could use acrylic directly on bone without any priming. Depending on how the bone has been cleaned/prepared, charcoal and graphite might take better on an unprimed surface as well. If you do want to prime it, I'd use a couple of thin coats of acrylic gesso, or a matte spray primer, so that it has some tooth.
