A lot has been happening in my life so far, I am turning 20 in two days which is pretty damn crazy because I still suck haha. Anyways, here is a small preview of a matte painting I am working on, A mythical horse that every knight dreams of. No sketches for now, my sister took her camera for the time being.

Snowstorm=screw school work, I am going to draw and sketch instead. Trying to think like a sculptor as I draw my figures, Bammes book definitely helps conceptualize that thought!

thank you for the belated birthday wish Mech, haha, you just made my day. Yeah, you are right, my gestures do look more lyrical =D, I will post more gestures soon and will continue to work hard, look out for better quality work in the future.

Still working on foundations, some of the pages might look warped, I did a terrible job taking pictures using my ipad that I had to ditch half the updates that I planned. One of the newsprint page are blind contour drawing, who would have ever thought blind contour drawing can be fun. Also some experimentation and life gestures, look out for some oil paintings soon, I have been learning how to paint using oils. Thanks for viewing to those who visit this sketchbook.

Regarding your matte painting up there, I was watching one of Dave Rapoza's livestreams, and in it he recommends doing matte painting exercises as a good aide in learning painting value, etc.

Morning quick mind exercises, some dude with a big head and a female figure since I hardly draw female figures from imagination.

Paintings done from life, the female neck mannequin was done using acrylics, just experimenting with color relationships and learning oils. About an hour each, hope you guys like it.

Not much, my last session I focused on seeing through the figure. Placements may be wrong, but I still learned a ton, I think I walked out of the figure session with a new pair of eyes O.o. Also self portrait study/w.i.p. Hope my peepz dig it! (sorry for the smudging)

Update! No personal work in this post haha, I have still been drawing, but I rather not post the boring stuff yet.

These past weeks I have been getting lost in antique shops, Its a great source of inspiration for me, I love browsing the vintage art prints, they are very beautiful and inspiring. So far, I have collected two prints and a Bouguereau painting of "sewing" http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...ing_(1898).png, I am not sure if mines is a giclee reproduction, but I do believe it was a master study even though the artist name is not present, I still love the painting! Does anyone by any chance are able to tell which artist was possibly behind one of my prints of a "lady at the desk"? The children illustration, I know is definitely from the artist Donald Zolan, but I still would like to know the artist behind the female at a desk. I will post more finds once I get my next paycheck to buy some more, cant wait till I decorate my room with these awesome prints and paintings.

Your linework looks quite clean, which i like. But the massive proportion problem
is a bit of an eye sore. Try to get them right from the start. Otherwise, all that hard
work will be eclipsed. Also, I'd recomand more construction (with cubes, spheres, etc)
and more anatomy studies.

You're off to a nice start, keep posting!

You have some good stuff, mate. The thing I notice the most out of anything else is a lack of construction in your work. I posted a quick draw-over to show what I mean. This simply means that you need to sit down and understand perspective drawing more. Keep it up!

The 'lady at the desk' print is by american magazine illustrator Coby Whitmore and 'sewing' looks suspiciously much like a print to me. The proportions and all the little details looks dead on, but you should be able to tell if there's any visible brushstrokes there. : )

Pardon me for my inconsistent updates as usual, I been working on my oil paintings these past days, all the senior members on this forum advocates the importance of traditional competence in painting before advancing digitally and I think they are DAMN RIGHT! it is fun as well lol., I will post that when I finish them but here are some mindless doodles, simply sketching what I feel at that present moment. Also one well kept life drawing, I focused on perspective on that particular session, I was on the floor chilling lol, I think everyone thought I was weird that day.

Thank you so much guys =D, I will definitely keep all these great advice in consideration and through practice will improve on them.

Here is my finished oil painting, there are many flaws but It was a great learning experience and through practice will be corrected in future endeavors. (sorry for the photo quality)

Thank you Joe. Yes, I will try to do some perspective studies whenever I find some time (like today, haha)!

So, I am home sick today, decided I should update my sketchbook instead of sniffling around the house. I have also been accepted to Grand Central Academy, I have never been more excited in my life, I can't wait to finally experience a formal art education from instructors who I deeply admire. So, for now, hope you guys enjoy all these ink gesture drawings, studies and work in progresses. The brown toned figure drawing was the largest drawing I have ever done! GO BIG OR GO HOME! just kidding, but I have to say, working large brings the best out of you, not necessarily finished, but I learned how to measure properly in the process.

Also, thanks again for all these great tips and suggestions.

Congrats on being accepted - I'm sure it'll help you out immensely. Good push forward with this last batch, and it's good to see you scratching some perspective surface here and there. Dig as deep as you can. And you're right, working big is definitely a great way to challenge your drawing skills! Keep going.

Anyway, I don't mind one bit helping someone out. I'm humbled, actually, to think that I'm thought of as being in any position to pass anything along, ha. But I digress.

The best, concise source I can refer you to get a great starting grasp on perspective drawing is Scott Robertson's Basic Perspective Drawing DVD. Don't let the title fool you. If you haven't done much perspective other than setting up horizon lines and drawing boxes in 2pt. perspective, it will be sure to challenge you. Some of the section building stuff on there I'm currently still struggling with. So that alone will give you months of practice material. From there it's a matter of observation and deconstruction/reconstruction of forms. I remember when it started "clicking" for me, and I walked around feeling like I was seeing the fucking Matrix for the first time in its true form - just cubes, cylinders, cones, and spheres everywhere. It's quite liberating! Being able to look at something and say confidently "I can draw that" is a great feeling and one that I'd love to help any aspiring artist to achieve as well. Which brings me to another point - don't be afraid to ask for help from anyone here. I'm sure there are maybe 1 or 2 people that are dicks and fussy about noobs daring to ask them for any help (as if they ever had to struggle to learn this stuff as well!), but from what I've gathered most people on this site are more than happy to help out and go out of their ways to do so, in fact. We're all in this same boat, paddling against the tide and the more we help each other out the easier it becomes to get upstream where we all want to be (fuck yeah, analogies!). So ask away and keep working hard. Back to drawing.
