    Thank you Bruce.

Sorry guys for not updating this dusty sketchbook, exams are finally over, so now I can commence back to my daily routines. I will post my self portrait that I have been working on after I photograph it, but here is a character I have done, I will post the sketch of it if in the next post....isn't he cute with his scrawny self?

Here is the self portrait, I still have miles to go, but when I found an old portrait I did of my father, I felt pretty good about this one. I can only get better from here on. I also have done a portrait study of one of my favorite contemporary realist Nicholas Hiltner, http://www.nhiltner.com/ check out his portfolio, he is sure to inspire!

Alright, I had work almost the whole day today, but I managed to do some figures from my imagination. Sorry for the poor scan, I forgot my camera today.

    Happy Holidays!

I will try to update my sketchbook with three figures from imagination daily, here are the three for today. It is very rewarding and extremely fun doing these, a lot of intuition and sense of knowledge thus far.

    Have a great Christmas everyone!

Here is an update, I have a three figure sketch from yesterday and also one figure from today, I actually liked the end result of today's figure from my noob like mind. I think my figures are getting better, it certainly feels like it....or maybe I am wrong lol. Also I tried glazing colors on the more refined black and white landscape that I had posted in the past. Lastly, self-figure studies. I have been trying to find open figure drawing sessions but the ones around my area are at an inconvenient time......during my work hours which really sucks because I really want to go to open figure drawing sessions weekly.

Hey , man! Props for busting out those figures! I see a lot of progress , but maaan...you can do moooore !
Don't limit yourself to 3 a day , say to yourself to do as much as you can.Work strongly from reference and then apply,Don't try to invent the muscles in your head without having studied them first.
I already see in your sketches that you are thinking while drawing , which is extremely important. In time and with mileage that thinking process will get more complexe but at the same time easier for your brain to comprehend, that's why you will feel it getting easier and easier. All you need to do is keep putting those miles behind you and keep on thinking.

Thank you buddy, No worries I will do many more, just you wait =D

So...I completed a painting today, about 2 hours I believe. It is based off the Olmec, a Mesoamerican civilization who were the first to come up with the concept of the number Zero! The civilization created colossal size heads. Everything was done in black and white values, the color process was done using blending modes i.e. overlay, I had a blast doing this.

Nice concept with that Olmec painting, but I think the composition is not working. For example, it feels kinda weird that the top of the giant head statue is cut off. Just keep practicing and you'll get there You already seem to have improved quite a lot!

Thank you for the comment =D, Yeah I see what you mean, the initial piece had the entire full length of the Olmec head but I cropped it thinking the piece worked better and gave a sense of closure.

This is today's sketches, I have been heavily inspired today by Massive Black's conceptual work and George Rushing's beautiful landscapes. I hope one day I will be as fluent with landscapes and painting in a digital manner as George and produce professional level works like the massive black team, in the mean while, I can only work towards such a goal.

Here is a small update. Sorry no sketches today =[. I have been helping my father renovate the house since yesterday, but I have been reading a lot of Loomis during breaks as well as starting a portrait. I know there are a lot of errors, but I am more than content with the results, this portrait is definitely a milestone for me. I researched lighting conditions to better help me visualize with painting the overall image. It was really fun. Hopefully I can get some time tomorrow to draw.

    Take care everyone!

Alright, I finally finished adding new hard floors to my parent's room. So now comes more time for art. I painted colors on my last portrait using color overlays (Thanks NIM!) I experimented a lot before I even gotten to this stage, experimenting has to be one of the funnest parts in the process. Also a character sketch.

    Thanks for viewing everyone.

Hey! Thanks for stopping by my sketchbook! I thought I'd return the favor! I would say you're doing a nice job of getting contour and some form. I would work on in your drawings having more finished certain lines than a few strokes to make one line. I would love to see the construction lines a little lighter and then the final, sure line be one continuous, dark line. Also, After you get the contour nice and sure, maybe using that to round out the form a little bit in your line drawings. This is a nice easy way to move into tone through line! I hope I helped, keep going!

Hey Angelique, thank you =D, you definitely helped!

Here is some modifications of my portrait, I a just going to move on with a different painting now, It was a great learning experience. I am now following shyamshriram class outline from Crimson Daggers, I thought It would benefit me, so I did 4 skull drawings in newsprint, trying to work on my whole arm movements and on a larger scale. Sketches will be updated by tonight =D.

Today was a real great day, managed to wake up around 6 am and had so much motivation to draw, I really want to improve. So here is a landscape, it was for the Skype improvement group's one hour design challenge, but I decided to make it a personal piece/study with an emphasis on atmosphere and changed it up sightly from the original. Also a total of 10 skull on newsprint (plus previous =D), as well as a self portrait. Charcoal pencil is a pretty hard medium to get tones with or maybe I am not capable yet of wielding such a medium =D. Also some sketches from my brain! (ignore the anatomical faults, I realized the bad anatomy after I photographed it).

Alright O.o, I had to get this character out of my head. Meet Alpha X, your renaissance type of warrior =D. X is not cleared for battle yet...just look at his bottom gears..He will get some kick ass bottom gears if I decide to paint this sucker. Until then, I need to think of more ideas.

    As always, thanks for viewing.

I forgot all about this figure drawing. I had done this in GCA, it was my first figure drawing class and visit to an art school. I learned a lot from Jon deMartin in 4 days, I wish I could have taken it again but my work schedule conflicts the class meetings. I struggled so much, especially while holding the pencil let alone drawing with full arm movement. I had never drawn in the traditional art school setup before, I was too used to drawing on my sketchbook where arm movements are very limited. There are a lot of errors, but I really learned so much in the process.
    (sorry for the bad photograph)

Hey man, thx for the sketchbook visit, and I didn't realize you was in the study group . Anyways, really like the lighting on the cave piece from a few posts ago and the skull sketches, try doing some eye studies though as your drawing them kinda flat as though they aren't on a spherical form, hope that helps

Thanks Will! yeah I really do need to work on my eyes, they look like almonds.

Nothing much really, I been watching Chris Legaspi's videos lately. I am going to focus strictly on traditional work for now, I decided my digital paintings will have to wait because it is obvious I am still incompetent with my pencils.....Here is an attempt of the Reilly Method, done on news print. Until then.......ITS FOUNDATION TIME BABY!

Hey TNiznet. I like that you are doing a lot of fundamental, traditional drawing study. I believe that mastering basic drawing principles will greatly improve your dig/trad painting. The Olmec environment painting is already damn good, though.

Thank you klortho, I truly appreciate it.

The news print drawing is the only study from life, everything else is doodles and scribbles, trying to bring my ideas to life. I will definitely post more studies soon, in the meanwhile I just want to explore and gain mileage.

Tired from work but I really wanted to draw. These past few days I have been a bit pessimistic. I understand that one cant get better overnight but I find it hard to accept that thought, I really want to improve quickly. Until then, here is a half naked warrior that contains many faults.....
