    Kvetchbook

Thanks for stopping by my sketchbook

Feel free to leave any tips or advice. In return, I'll try my best to stop by your sketchbook and complain about stuff.

Couple of SL and some chow sketches + some quick master studies from earlier in the week:

Colour study of my filing cabinet... very interesting to look at reflections carefully. Should've used a perspective grid though.

Leaf came out very plastic, need to start observing more carefully.

Wow! You are very good for only having two years of practice.
Looks like you have been working hard and passionately to achieve
that. If you keep that up I am sure a art job will come easy.

    Good Luck

Edit: I would also love to see from where you began to where you are now.

Great start! That girl and the monster with the halos are simple but the composition is very good, and the rendering for the electric shaver is very sensitive.

Kepp doing the studies you're doing, they all look very good!

I don't have much advice being new to art myself, but I did just want to say I like a lot of your stuff. I think you have a great start, I especially liked the little reflection in the blue cabinet painting, gives it a real metallic feel imo.

Great Bridgman studies. Do you expect to be able to make it as a professional artist in 18 months? Just curious.

    Thanks guys.

Leonor, let's just say I'll work as hard as I can, and use this time as an opportunity to improve as much as possible. If I have to go back to my day job at the end of it, at least I'll be able to take my improved skills with me.

    Some crappy still life/master/photo studies:

Some EOW thumbs (space refinery). Most of them look pretty terrible, will probably go with one from the bottom row.

Started a few more car studies but had a lot of trouble accurately identifying perspective, so I've mostly been doing perspective studies for the last few days, nothing worth uploading. Here's a few photo-referenced environment thumbs from this morning.

Have been doing the same perspective exercise over and over for a few days now - basically lots of fast studies (anything boxy, cars, trains, buses, etc), guess the vps and freehand a perspective grid, then check against the photo when finished sketching.

Very tedious to start with, but beginning to enjoy it now. Definitely worth spending time on.

Went a bit further with this one. Again, need to be more careful with the values, forms still not reading properly.

Sounds like a great idea and your dedication seems to be paying off! Would you care to show a visual step by step on how you do this?

Oh I remember this sb. Nice studies! You say the perspective is off but I really dont see how to be honest...the car looks very accurate!

If I have anything to critique, I think that the values for the tip of the plane may be slightly off as its getting a little flatter as the planes moves towards us. Its very minimal though.

    Great studies overall!

Thanks for the comments everyone :o

@Leonor I don't have a procedure as such, I'm not very confident with perspective yet. I've done a lot of practice where I use a photo of a bus/building or anything cube-like, and just draw the cube. I check if it's right by overlaying the photo on top. I normally keep a score, so if it's right I get a point, and if it's wrong I start another one.

If you do this, just be aware that the perspective depends on the lens the photo was taken with, so long lenses have less convergence than wide angle ones.

@SandyMan, thanks you're definitely right about the plane being flat, I will keep that in mind on the next one.

Some more cars (observation) another spaceship thumb and some super-exciting still life stuff:

Master studies (Leonardo & Mucha) and a bust study (photo) I did with a cheap tablet I found on ebay (motion LE1600, it's ok, but the minimum pressure to register a stroke is way higher than my intuos, I'm finding it pretty annoying atm).

Mucha does insane hands. I don't. More studies required.
