    BFA for Game artist??

    Hello
Im working as a Adobe Flash animator currently [just because i know how to use Flash]
but what i really want to be is a Concept artist in a gaming industry [specializing in character design. which is why i need to learn to draw a human body properly.]
so i was wondering if im making the right choice by choosing to go for BFA
[also its "distance education" so we have to go only 2 days a week. but i figured its better than not doing anything]

    so the 2 questions are:
is BFA the right thing to choose?
its 2 days a week so is it worth it?

i would really appreciate if sumone can help me on this!!

You don't need a BFA for any art job. If you have money to waste knock yourself out. The only thing that matters is a great portfolio.

Still won't help you get an art job. A degree is geared to be rounded which means your portfolio will suffer and so you are better off finding something like TAD or Feng Zhu that will really prepare you.

TAD, Gnomon , Feng Zhu are really great but they are highly unaffordable for me!!

You are better off taking them for a year or two then taking four years for a BFA

You really need to define your whole goal. If it is to do the game thing then Armand is absolutely correct. And I would be very suspect of distance BFA programs. Most of them are about money.

A degree is for someone who is looking to enhance their life as a whole not someone who has a specific, very defined goal.

Unless that specific, very defined goal is working abroad or teaching...

No way on earth we can do more than offer generalizations...depends on the school, the particular instructors, their experience, your own initiative...yadda, yadda, yadda...

Schools can provide a great structure...networking opportunities with fellow students and industry connections. But a "trade school" focused on your particular career interest is the way to go.

The BFA isn't a bad thing to have as long as it doesn't take away from your focus...which they can. In the end it comes down to your portfolio...and whether you're the kind of person people want to work with.

Didn't look like that was on his list. And believe me I would be the first one to say get a degree if it's appropriate since that's where I live.

The price of Feng's school really confounds me. It doesn't seem very reasonable.

I think that's a good question. In America, the portfolio is what counts but in many Asian countries, they highly value degrees. It's all relative to your goal I suppose.
