    Nomad Warrior Update

Sharpening some details and pumping up the saturation on the red accents.

Added another image into the mix.

So I've been doing more and more sketching, and recently did this piece. I have been told by a few people that areas are "fuzzy". I am really struggling with this concept, and would love some advice, things to keep in mind while constructing forms.

more practice and your edge work will evolve. So general it's practically not a crit but it's the best advice imo.

    Also try this:

Try to think about the look you're after as a process of building up brushstrokes. For example, say you're defining the form and edge of the upper arm. Your brushstrokes can go past the area you are trying to define and then select the background color/tone and cut back against your last stroke to define the form. Mixing stylus pressure and brush hardness will take experimentation as you go. So here comes the obligatory crit: keep going.

Thanks Derra. Yeah, definitely agree, more practice. I'm not sure I completely understand your example of defining form on the upper arm. Are you saying don't rely on individual or small brushstrokes to define a form, but build up and cut away?

Whats the size of your canvas? If its less than 3000 px make it bigger.

    Use the lasso tool!
Its the best method for making hard edges.

Use smaller brushes here and there.
    Paint on separate layers.

Awesome, thanks guys! wilkerson, great advice. I will definitely be using the lasso tool a lot more. All in all, aside from messy edges, how is this piece feeling? Fairly successful?

It's not bad for your experience level.
His right leg is too far back in space.
Overall the design is decent but the materials need detail.

I'd say his feet are too small, especially if he's wearing fur-padded shoes against the cold.

Beefed up his shoes/boots a bit. Not sure if I want to take this piece any further, but want to take crits, apply them and move on. Am I hitting on any of the crits you guys posted with this update at the top?

add snow particles flying in the wind. I would chose different colors to add to the shadow area of the skin. When adding that brown or black, it makes it muddy.
