    Concepts for graphic novel

Hi everyone, it's been ages since I've posted but now that I have a project to work on with my friend who's making a graphic novel with me so I expect to be coming up with new stuff thick and fast. I'm self taught and decided to stick to the traditional media for the moment since I'm much more comfortable here. I very much welcome all critiques (preferably constructive haha) and hope this is a nice thread to follow...

Hello, welcome to CA! I like the things you have posted so far, especially the loose lines in the third one.
Although, I think it would benefit you to study some more anatomy, maybe from Loomis or one of those figure-drawing sites like pixelovely.
The only reason I'm mentioning this is because in the last one, I get the feeling that the elbows would be placed a bit lower. Elbows come below the chest, around halfway down the torso, but in that picture they're at the chest level!

But anyway, welcome, and I look forward to seeing more.

I like the values in the first image, all dark and moody. I second the anatomy study suggestion, it never hurts. I see you're also looking at gesture studies, which I'm learning right now too. Try to remember to stay loose! A helpful suggestion that somebody told me in my sketchbook thread was to focus less on outlines for a gesture drawing and just try to get the motion. Pretty much a stick figure with a head, chest, and pelvis. I've been keeping that in mind and it helps get the flow down better than worrying about the outlines. Good luck with your graphic novel!

Thanks I definitely need to loosen up I'd agree! Normally I'm very loose so maybe I'm trying to force it a bit too much.. ink usually helps

Thought I'd put more of my earlier stuff up to make this sketchbook more interesting too
(all this stuff I took a lot more time over apart from the 2nd one with pen all over it)

Your colors are verryyy muddy... Try to avoid mixing too many at the same time..

Thinking of maybe digitally colouring my drawings ad ideas since when I colour them by hand they do seem darker..

Hey m8. I just wanted to say good luck with the G-novel. I like the fact that you experiment alot with different styles. I am too! I think we just need to paint more and more and all of these experiments will merge into our own personal style. But we need to give it time I'm afraid. I like what I see so far, so keep it up!

As someone who is persuing their own style of painting, drawing..ect... one thing to remember is, is that the opinion of others matter very little. we live in a world where everyone wants to be validated and feel accepted. Do your own thing. Step outside the box. Break the rules! And yes, go ahead and take a few studies in anatomy, but not soley because others said so but do it because you see it as a bennifit to adding strength to your developing style. Other than that, keep picassos words in mind.

"Draw for the sake of art. Dont worry about if its good. Let others decide that. And while they're deciding dont wait for them. Keep making more art".

Love seeing artists who don't jump only into digital Your color works look pretty good, especially that self portrait. Don't forget to work on line work and value. Value is more important than color, and your colors will improve when your values do. But your doing well in both so far. Keep posting!

Had quite a few decisions to make at uni last year and I just found a pen sketch mixing up all the thoughts in my head at the time.. (I had broken my ankle and was in a cast with crutches)...
