started out as a sketch, ended up like this.

That has got to be one of the goofiest, most impractical designs I have ever seen.

its based off of warhammer ogre kingdoms. That big gut plat they charge into the foe with. Maybe it is impractical lol.

Well, with the ogres it looks like it "works", and it's still more practical in the original art, it seems to be positioned lower, the tusks point outwards and further away, buckles and belts look thicker thus more securely fit and overall takes less vertical space which makes swinging stuff over the tusks or between them easier (where as your guy would probably impale his own arm) and the tusks don't look like they're so low they'll hit the ogre's knees if it lifts them. Not to mention if their way of fighting is charging and gutting the enemy, the shield of your guy feels totally contradictional to that. And they're ogres, look to be pretty inhuman and have grotesque piercings and other impractical stuff and may go just for the intimidation factor.
You can't just slap couple similar things to a normal jolly fat guy human and expect to get the same reaction or have it work similarly. The viewer can accept that these monsters might use something like that because of their culture etc, but when applied to a human (especially something established, like Vikings as your title implies), we expect them to have the same human logic going on. And if the point is that they don't have the same logic going on, then it should be shown properly (as it was made clear with the ogres).

Also if you're going with weird or specific weaponry, it's generally better to show them from an angle that doesn't leave the viewer guessing or give very poor look of the weapon.

And on another note, if you wish to design stuff, why just copy someone else's specific gear (since this isn't just a re-design that should have similar elements)?

    well good input Tiny bird.

I spend a little too much time painting and not enough drawing and planning. I tell myself this everytime I start a new drawing yet I fall into the same trap and rush into painting where I feel most comfortable. Thats why he looks so stiff and has no neck, which I'm surprised nobody mentioned.

    also:

what Elwell said, although kind of blunt. I think the goofiness stems from him having no neck lmao. Looks like a mad magazine character. lol

I need to just put some solid work on the drawing before hand to solve my art issues.
