I sell traditional paintings through 7 galleries nationally here in America and I sell off of my website. I also make production art for games as a freelance contract artist and I have prints for sale on FineArtAmerica.com That is how I make most of my income.
Like all art and illustration you have to offer a product at a price point someone is willing to pay you for.
There is no secret.
You take your work and show it at art fairs or to galleries or post it online and get feedback. If nothing happens it either means you are a misunderstood genius ahead of your time or you don't have the right type of images for the right price. At every level there are willing buyers for artists whose art speaks to those buyers and compels them to buy it.

I sell my art work through galleries, stores, art fairs, mall kiosks, in my office at work, on the internet.... lots of different areas.
As dpaint said, it's having a product for your market that people want and at the right price. There is no "one" location that is the be-all/end-all. It's a matter of knowing where your target audience is and what they prefer to pay.

Or you could go to some. I mean, I don't really even get the question? Visit the real world every now and then. If you're a young person that's cool, I can understand and relate to not having a lot of experience, but there just isn't really an easy answer. I got a bigcartel shop recently (bennewmanart.bigcartel) and i really recommend it. super easy to set up and you get loads of traffic info as well.
