Mentor or committed beginners

I've always been interested in Art from a very young age but lost interest towards the end of school, and only just started it up again and I'm trying to switch over to Digital. I'm a beginner in the biggest sense of the word, but I want to improve simply because I enjoy it and who knows when the skills might become useful.

I'm using a Bamboo Fun and Photoshop CS5. I've got a lot of free time to commit, as I'm a part-time Uni student in the UK (BA(Hons) Business).

I tried using the Manage Attachments to upload some files but kept getting an error, so my Deviant Art is all I can show. As you can see, I really need some focus and direction, I feel a bit as though I'm trying to run without knowing how to walk, tutorials etc alone aren't cutting it, and need someone to tell me where I'm going wrong and such, any help is appreciated. A mentor or just one or two others to battle through it with would be good.
