    Portraits

So I have started doing portraits just to try something new, I'd like feed back if anyone cares to give it.
To clarify the "to try something new" most of the stuff I have done is nature scenes and landscapes and some random stuff for school.

The first one I like to call..."Some Old Man With A Bird" I didn't quite finish it I got tired...

    The second is Jack Nicholson.

The third is my mother while she was reading.

    Note: 1 & 2 were from photographs.

hey these are some pretty nice portraits you've got here, I'd just give a little advise with more facial studies, take your time! You're doing really good anyway! keep it up!

So, here's my first attempt at any sort of charcoal drawing....(wow what a noob I know)

My mothers foot! And my hand, that's not in charcoal obviously.

I am seriously lacking in art supplies, because 1) I'm broke haha 2) The nearest art store is like an hour away. And I'm not a huge fan of ordering stuff... But anyways it's quite infuriating.

Here is another (non-portrait..) charcoal experimentation. It's a little wonky, but it was in the middle of class when I was supposed to be taking notes, hehe.
It's my hand by the way.

well, here is this thing. I really don't like it. The face is terrible, her boobs are totally wrongly placed and one of her arms/hand is tiny!! But I'll post it anyways, to shame myself into doing better hopefully

Thanks for dropping by my sketch book looks like your work is coming along pretty nicely. I have to say if that is your first attempt at a foot you did very well they are really tough. The most important thing as an artist is not to beat yourself up. Not everything you draw is going to be perfect. Keep on doing those portrait studies and maybe try to get some books by perhaps bridgman or andrew loomis. If money is tight you can find some downloadable pdf's that are nice. Here's some for Loomis: http://alexhays.com/loomis/
do a couple studies from these everyday and they don't have to be extremely long and involved. This site is also extremely awesome for gesture drawing:

Thanks I actually just got both of those! hurray. And I am going to be doing and independent in school which I like to call "A study of the human figure" where I will have 2 hours every morning for three weeks devoted to figure drawing, and I'll be doing some live model sketching and I'm in an art history class right now. I finally feel like I'm getting motivated to do art, and it's awesome! So, thanks for the advice!
