    E.O.W Round #186: Earth's Womb

    E.O.W Round #186: Earth's Womb

    TOPIC = Earth's Womb
    suggested by albino-Z

    Brief:

    This is an open topic.

Keeping that in mind, you can ponder some scenarios of your own on the possibility of the Earth possessing a 'womb' of sorts, such as...

    - What if planets could recreate or reproduce? What has been generated from this specific space on our planet?
    - Is there a place on Earth where the landscape resembles the womb of a female entity or contains the very aura of creation?
    - Is this something of celestial origin? A place of ash and dust and swirling matter. A place where magical things froth about in a scientific soup.
    - A moment from Earth's "childhood" or mature development stage, the coming out.
    - Literally a womb for a species of creatures.
    etc.

Whatever your approach is, my guidelines are that be it abstract, traditional or supernatural, your environment should encompass the topic in an aesthetic, understandable way. I think that's of enough of a brief for me this week.

Show us your wombs or GTFO! (just kidding..)

    - Post your finals in this thread!

Nice topic! pixeltuner: you're on a rocket, mate!

I decided to try a different approach this time.
Since I hardly now my way around photoshop, I'll just play with as many brushes and layersettings as possible this round.
Hopefully I'll learn something. This is the first thing that came to mind.

Some sort of behemoth embryonic creature that one day will awake.

Ashess: You might want to develop it a bit further before we can say something about it.

Here's some development on yesterdays idea. Spiral soup of creation thingie.

dont know if this quite says womb, but i think i got the dark, damp aspect down I think it needs something more symbolic of growth.

i know.. but this is actually usally the place I get stuck.
it's so much easier with creatures or people. I can pretty much add detail I want. here I just get 'you know, space...".

Ashess practice makes perfect- plan ahead, what are you gonna put where fore-mid-back-ground... Start of with big brushes ... and so on

That said this subject isn't exactly easy... Not giving up, just saying.

Pixeltuner - I'm really digging that second image you posted, great feel to it.

Harmageddon - Cool idea! Is the debris from the creature breaking out of its womb or from something else?

Incinerated - nice start! I'm partial to the the top image as well.

ashess - A really interesting take on this! Is that white circle in the upper hemisphere of the planet a highlight? If so I don't think such a strong highlight would appear on a planet like that. Have you every seen a highlight like that on the moon for example? If it is meant to be something else, then apologizes but its not clear yet. Regardless, keep going, I look forward to seeing more updates!

M!CK - looking really nice so far!

Some thumbs I've been playing with.

Derekdegell The bottom one i find most fresh

Ashess Having more going on isn't neccessarily, better than having less

    Pixeltuner Digging it

M!ck Very nice detailwise so far, you still seem to need something womby though. Sell your idea.

this is a quite abstract and difficult topic, at least for me, but also very interesting, I thought of a magical place with some elemtents of fertility, will have to refine this though

M!ck - very nice image, curious how this develops

Incinerated - I like the middle one most, maybe you could try to don´t put your focal in the center

    everyone else great start too

oh dear. that was supposed to be icecaps!

well, changed about everything except the general outline. but ended up with icecaps in that general area again. not sure why that happened. was planning to leave m out after reading your comment; but it felt weird. now I got swirl clouds too. I wanted to show them being effected by the 'birth'; that stuff around the earth is supposed to be the yalk bag from birth, and it breaking causeing the clouds to swirl. is that clear? and the star-cloud nova being the mother..

    update

derekdedgell: the rocks flying through space was supposed to be the explosion caused by the..birth?

But I figure it doesn't make sense, exploding locally, one way.
I don't know what I'm doing ... I think I'll ditch the whole thing and start from scratch. Anyway, had fun playing with this .. thing. Hate it right now.
Looks like a dragon shaped asteroid, lol.

Next up: something that I actually thought about before I start painting.

Yup, this is actually my first real landscape, I always draw faces and bodies or props.

Oh and a small update, I completely changed my color scheme.

ashess - Icecaps! Of coarse I see it now. I'm sure it would have been clearer to me once everything was totally polished off. Regardless, the values of the planet in the most resent post are reading very well, nicely done! I really like the inclusion of clouds in the atmosphere.

Harmageddon - Ah, OK. That is what it looks like. I was just confused by the text,

The 'one day' part was throwing me off, I mistakenly took that as meaning it was not yet waking/being born.

Plaguebone - I use mostly painter. Dunno about the rest.

Harmegedon- fokus on shape before anything else, try blocking in your shapes, study values and shape.

    Ashess- thats much better

    Android411- Good start.

the first one felt alittle overmindy(starcraft), so im gonna go with the second.

    some quick thumbs...
1 is basically something growing at the base of a tree, though now that I look at it, it kinda resembles Eow's winner's badge...but I like the idea, like a tree's womb...or something...may redo in a more dramatic angle...
2 celestial, rocks, gravity, pulling, planet forming...you get it...
3 some kinda important looking temple or mountain with a planet looking thing at it's peak
4 same kinda idea as 3 but more in the process of making it and in a more dramatic angle
5 like some kind of cave with something growing inside supported by thingies...

Here is my first attempt. I want to sketch some other ideas too, but this one is showing the growth of life through the trees and roots. I want to morph the limbs and hair into the roots. May change the scale and have a whole numbers of people growing along the forest floor. Great topic!

Hey all, wanted to try my hand at this one. I was drawn to more of a fantasy setting rather than anything else..lots of trees, rocks and natural things. I'll hopefully be continuing one or a combination of these to final, so if you see one that strikes you let me know!

here is an update of my image, still lots of stuff to do, don´t know exactly where to bring it right now, so lets see...

audit - that looks very promising, great thumbs, I thing lots of them have potential

Incinerated - I like your last sketch, I think the composition works quite good, maybe you could try to put in some of the ground in order to have some more space to guide the viewers eye

derekdedgell - I think you have some very dynamic thumbs, I have no real favourite, curious about your choice

pixeltuner - somehow I like your first sketch more, as it is more dynamic, whereas your second is very calm, but that´s just my opinion, like your colors too

I like it Android, now you just need to explain visually why this is "womby"... I think more graveyard or temple so far when I look at it.
