    Welcome finnianm
Nice shapes, I really liked the complex one on the right~
And about human anatomy, we'll get to that if you'll continue with us~
If we understand how to render those shapes, human anatomy we'll get much easier to render. So why not join us on the weekly topic system.

yochanan : great shapes~I think the cylinder is ok!
One thing about cylinders that gets me confused is their base.
Just try and concentrate on it from a reference~ x_x"
It get's tricky on the corners

Prototypt' : I've seen it already on your SB XD
Great work on the 3rd one~!

And now my studying begins! XD

finnianm: You're welcome, keep us updated! Your geometry looks really good, the perspective on the right one looks a bit strange, but it's a really hard one to draw properly too if you're not using reference. The actual rendering looks wicked, especially the cone, great job!

And yeah like Morningtea said we're all looking to get into anatomy, perspective and everything else. If whatever topic we end up doing is too easy for you, you can just update with a more complicated version or even focus on anatomy if you prefer that. Mostly I think it helps to stay on the right track and work through the boring stuff when you have a study group, same way it's much harder for most people to draw 8 hours a day if they're studying on their own compared to being in school.

Morningtea: Thank you! Yeah I think it's been the hardest one so far for some reason, it ended up looking completely flat because I couldn't figure out where the shadows were. I hope finding some reference with more contrast will help figuring it out, or maybe I should try to not rely so much on it and just think how the light would work hehe. But that requires thinking and who has time for that!

I totally forgot to introduce myself. Figured it would be nice to know at least a tiny bit about each other and our goals!

My name is Johan and I'm 20 years old. I live in Denmark and I've been drawing for a little over a year (don't let my join date fool you, I only drew for a few months before quitting the first time around ). My goal has been to improve enough to work in illustration or concept design down the road, but currently I'm fine with doing it as a hobby, since that would be a long time away anyways. Still think it would be a really cool job, so if I become good enough I'll definitely try to get into it!

I'm currently a student at CAO and my main focus is on traditional art. Really all my current drawing experience has been digital value studies and master studies in pencil, so I understand very little about drawing without reference and feel I have to rely heavily on it for everything. My goal is to keep myself learning and improving on that while I'm here since I could never keep myself working on it and I always end up going back to values after a few minutes of attempted perspective or anatomy practice.

    Alright, back to drawing!

    Red face

    Ok.
    My name's Maria, I'm 19 years old.
I'm a hobbyist, but just like yochanan said:
My goal has been to improve enough to work in illustration or concept design down the road, but currently I'm fine with doing it as a hobby.
I used to be an IT student, but I quit it.
So my main concentration now is on art, Just like I wanted.
And I'm here to improve. That's all I got to say.

My studying today was concentrated on understanding the shapes' contour, and how the shadows act on them.
I got really messy with the sketchesso, I have nothing much to share but this tiny thumbnail.
I was trying to put everything I've learned into it but the perspective is a bit off, and there's no quality in this one. :|

    Prototypt': don't get lazy~:p

    This' what I've done today~
I practiced to vary the light source location and angle~
I think it's ok but I still need to practice with a reference.
Sorry for the messiness, it's just for understanding~

    Hope to see your updates

Worked on these yesterday and today, last ones off the reference chart. Didn't spend enough time on the donut, it looks way off, but spent too much on these already and want to work on some other stuff this weekend.

Well that last picture was topic specific and the topic was 2 creature carrying some furniture.
i made this 2 nerds who steal coffins and may be eating our corpse.and the 2 guys are searching where coffins is missing.
darkness, yeah it can have been much better but i left it as such bcz it when drawing it i thought darkness will add much more reality of a night scene.
well had to do study some lightings.
will keep in mind ur suggestions next time for similar scene.

for working with water or rocks you need to use textured brushes.

use textured brush indeed. like he one below, this is pic of rock manipulated. U can use this as a brush to create other scenes.
(my inclination is more toward 3d game design so i don't mind using such brushes, which as from a view of painters is a cheating)

But as an artist i will suggest you to study some rocks type and then draw what type of rock you are trying to draw.
Even then u need to use some textured brush to get the best outcome. This textured brushes can be some grunge brushes.

Hey guys, sorry I haven't posted in a while. Was waiting until I could get a scanner to show my new drawings, but looks like I won't be able to get one :/ I'll post some photos tonight-

I also missed the bios so I will post one now

I'm Finn, 17 from the US. Been interested in concept art for about two years, but I've been producing digital artwork for around 3-4 years now. My brother went to school for game art, so in a way I'm following in his footsteps(though he is a 3D modeler instead of using painting/drawing)
My plan is to study at Art Center for the next however-many years and to get a job in the industry. Other than that, I play xbox, starcraft II, and piano.

Hey guys, our internet crashed yesterday and it didn't work until now! What do you guys want to work on this week? I've been practicing perspective the last few days, my straight lines suck and I keep getting the grids all wrong. Need more practice!

Morningtea: Thank you so much! I still think I suck though, pencil just feels easier to control for me, but takes much longer. I think part of that is the paper I use, it's extremely grainy so getting something to look smooth is a challenge (and of all the paper I have lying around none of it isn't the right width without having a ton of texture).

Finniam: What race do you play man? I play Brood War, guitar and PS3. Maybe we are long lost twins, I wonder which one of us is the evil one trying to destroy the universe!

may be we must switch to anatomy.
anatomy will compromise much more topics & perspective can be covered along with anatomy.
and rendering can also be accompanied.

    what do u say ?

@Yochanan Back in broodwar I played Protoss! My favorite thing to do was to use a dark archon to steal control of another race's builder and make a base with it
In SC2 I still play Protoss!

I ended up scanning these rock sketches from the past couple days:

I'm starting on anatomy now... Where to start? I'll see if there's some ebooks online eheh

Alright I know it's lazy, rushed, everything is off (and I don't care I HATE ANATOMY IT'S SO BORING) and probably doesn't really count, but I ended up working on my cast drawing all day anyways and didn't really get much done other than this (and have to do some perspective too)!

hey ^^ I just have too much to do right now, school, other projects, ..

the other projects arent all art related, but take a lot of time too :/ So this is why I still try to do something in the night (its allready 0:00 am in some minutes here)

I dont draw much over the day. I dont know how, I havent much experience with pencil I plan to learn more about crosshatching so I can make the values easier.
