There is a story to tell.

    Hello there CA,

I'm Rico, a student in The Netherlands currently studying the course Game Artist. My main focus at school and my internship right now is 3D modelling and texturing, but in my spare time I have a huge interest in drawing conceptart in traditional ways and digital. My preference is mainly traditional, because in my opinion it teaches you how to be more efficient with your tools/materials and it pays of very well in the end when you work digitally.

I first found the CA forums around 7 to 8 years ago, but sadly my understanding of the English language was far too limited to be able cope with the community. Now I'm slowly trying to; meld within the forums, ask for help, learn from fellow artists and especially grow with each new sunrise.

My main focus right now is to study Anatomy as much as possible, in the hopes that I'm able to draw the human body better. I've already ordered two recommended books (Human Anatomy for Artists - Stephen Rogers Peck & Atlas Of Human Anatomy For The Artist - András Szunyoghy & Gyorgy, Dr. Feher), the next book I'll order will most definitely Figure Drawing For All It's Worth by Andrew Loomis.

So I hope that I'm making a good start out here, I might even post a Journal just like one of the old members has done one (MindCandyMan) since it's a great way to challenge yourself and keeping yourself in the flow of improving daily.

Well that's enough talk for now, it's time to get back into the sketchbook again. Keep on drawing!

Welcome back. Your English is great, good job with that. It sounds
like you are off to the right track. Make a sketchbook thread
or put your stuff up to get crits.

Be sure while you are waiting for those books to arrive you
are also doing some life drawing, by that I mean drawing
your family, friends, pets and household objects.

    Good luck.

A third year Game Artist? At the USAT I presume? I'm a second year there . Welcome back and I hope you'll find this place to be useful and motivating!

@Star Eater, I'm mostly drawing plants and tree's that are in my garden when it comes to life drawings, the reason is because I love the chaotic perfection that nature is able to be. Ofcourse I'll also draw some still life, I'm personally not much a fan of drawing random objects, since they tend to bore after a while, but they can be a good study for light/shadows plus you get to know how certain materials tend to reflect light. Drawing people is alot of fun though, so that's something that I'll definitely do. I'll make a journal either tonight or tomorrow, so you can give me some critics if you feel like. I'm always up for improvement.

@Lhune, USAT is also referred as HKU, isn't it? Sadly, I'm not on that college, I'm considered a grade lower on GLR. I'm curious though about your school, it's one of the schools that I wish to join after I graduate here.

USAT (Utrecht School of Art & Technology) is the English name for the KMT (Kunst Media & Technologie), a branch of the HKU.

I'd be happy to give you some tips if you're planning on joining here . At least, by the time you're ready for it that is!

That would be great, I've just checked out your sketchbook, and I have to say that I'm quite amazed, I never truly realised that conceptart was used that much at the HKU, I thought they mostly specialised on 3D modelling/texturing and development.

Actually no, they do focus fairly heavily on development, but not nearly as much on art, whether that's 2D or 3D. 3D modelling and texturing is taught but mostly the technical side of it, not really the artistic side. Game Art is a rather new direction still and it shows in many ways.
