hey you have gots some nice rendering. as a crit, I wanna see more...
Very nice rendering skills, superb!!
I only have one crit, is that i feel the black halo's around some of the figures could be pushed out more into the negative space. I know its a pain in the ass to do that, but it would make the drawing more complete and solid. And on one or two you could simply crop a little of the white out to help with that.
other than that small detail everything is great. post more!
power of the tablet!
cheers lads,
here's a few more. No ref on any of these. Some of them have evolved into speedies. Mostly pencil on Bristol paper. If you haven't tried it, buy a pad today. It can soak up a lot of punishment, and doesn't smudge half as much as other types of paper.
I'll dig out some more when I get home.
Retinal Haze: gah! You sound just like my wife!![]()

Yeah! PUDDING...good to see u here!!!
I really love your drawings where you are putting emphasis on value. your lighting looks really good and dramatic too, it seems you really like that low light source! looking forward to your updates.
Nice stuff, Pudster.
Not quite what I would have expected to see in your sketchbook from your Wacom work; this stuff ( first batch anyway ) has a tighter, more controlled feel than your digital paintings. Always interesting to see how people work in different media.
More, please!![]()
Ooo yeah, this is good shit. Keep it up.![]()
sweet work, man. hope youre not like most other pros and stop posting work. .id like to see this book continue much further.. ..and with some of your nice colored pieces. if you dont mind me asking, who do you work for?
hey how much do you get paid, if im goin into concept art. id at least like to know if im gonna need another job:evilbat:

Hey, nice one folks! I'm glad you liked this lot. No scanner here at home, so my new stuff'll have to wait till Wednesday, when I can use the one at work. In the meantime, here's an oldie (well, 5 months old) coloured in Photoshop.
TheUbbermind: how much? Enough to do buy pencils and beer, with a little left over for food. The money's good enough for me.
metalwinds: yeah, I started this thread to force me to return to my pencils. I've been concentrating on speed painting for a few months now, and ignored everything else. I'd like to post every day or so. I work for the Lionhead group.

Here's something I'm working on in my spare time. A short CG film set during the Battle of Stalingrad.
This will end up as a backdrop, to save me building shitloads of sets. I'll probably need three more of these.

here's another. Pencil with some Photoshop tinkery pokery. No ref used
TheUbermind: to be a bit more specific, the guys who came straight out of college into games, at the companies I've worked for, have no complaints at all. It's a good wage.
metalwinds: do you mean the colour sketches on my site?

YAAAAAAAAAAAY FOR GOOD ART- BACKED UP BY GOOD PAY YAAAAAAAAAAAY![]()
Wow man. Good work.
Really dig that Stalingrad stuff, especially the first two.
The third one seems ruin the sense of scale somehow.
Cheers,
Erik
Some really good stuff in here. In your colour stuff you seem to have a really good sense of light. And I like in your drawings that I realize that there are people who use such a scribbly sketching style like myself, too.
Fipse
buzzz3d: thanks man. I see your point about the third pic. When I fitted it into the 3D set, the cropped bit was surplus to requirements. That's why I chopped it off.
Fipse: cheers! People have often commented on the light and colour in my pieces. As for the drawing, I have nothing but admiration for people who can find their line, first time, every time. Man, I've got some figure drawings that look like Kali! Six arms and twenty legs!
Here's a dragon. I was asked to design one for Fable, and caught the dragon designing bug.

great stuff, i really dig your environments. as far as the color work goes, i was just refering to you posting any color sketches you do in the future.. . .which you already have (as opposed to only posting stuff from you sketchbook).
also, in response to your question on my thread about posting digital sketches.. . .its totally cool.. .post whatever you want.. .i even post finished pieces in my sketchbook
goodstuff dood...keep posting
nice one lads, it's really encouraging to get such good feedback.
Here's a couple more. I'm curently making a painting of the alien with the binoculars. Stay tooned.

You've got some really nice stuff here. It all really tightens up when you throw some colour on in. Great development on the Stalingrad backdrop... nice work on the Fable background and cityscape.
Your pencilled roughs lack the depth and solidity that you achieve in your final copys - though I guess it doesn't matter if you understand what you're looking at when you're painting it. It could as well be a series of abstract strokes if it works for you.
Keep it up!
Dude, your way of rendering is very nice. Keep up the good work.
that fable piece is the shit.. . .really really well done. also, the finished painting of the alien looked damn nice.. .great textures. i think the top part of his hat is off in perspective, though. if you look at the angle and tilt of his head, then his helmet, then the top part of the helmet, it doesnt match up. nice piece nonetheless.
metalwinds and insane visions: nice one. You young 'uns! tsk! Every update on your pages is really ispiring. It makes me want to improve my character work. In recent years, I've focused on my environments, and let my figure drawing get slack.
van: hey, thanks man!
JProvost: yeah, that was a good observation. I hadn't really considered that before. When I'm doing an environment sketch, I don't need much to spark off an idea in the colour stage. Also, I don't like to commit too much detail to the pencil drawing, if I mean to colour it later. In my experience, if you add too much detail, you'll be reluctant to paint over it, even if it's obvious that it doesn't work.
here's a couple of more recent environments. I don't think they're all that, they're really just perspective practice.

That first one above makes me feel like its raining. Pretty cool..
The Stalingrad stuff is great but the third one contains real world objects (I presume that's a photo on the left) and see through telegraph poles which kind of spoil it a little, I know it's a WIP so I guess you'll tweak anyway.
The Dragon is excellent proper original stuff the two sith are weird but I suppose some of them have got to be, there are plenty of crazy looking jedi.
What is this Fable I keep hearing about? I feel all left out![]()
Wow, amazing work! I love all of them =]
