    Sketchbook - Road to Improvement

One of my worst habits is not doing enough studies and because of that my art is going no where. So I'm gonna try and post something, anything each day.

Welcome to CA! An admirable aspiration to attempt to post something new everyday...
To start off, I'd say that the ear is bit big, but other than that it's a well executed study!
    Good luck!

I think I'm gonna leave this as is for now and just work on some basic shading. Also the pic used for DA. Not mine.

You really seem to focus on studies. I will subscribe to get to know about how to do those. I can hardly tell you what's wrong or bad on your studies, as I am just at the very beginning of art. Do you just try to draw very rough sketches of common objects and animals? That's to get the shape correctly if you need it in a real painting right? In other words it makes you paint faster, as the forms get more familiar. I see how that is important. I must do these too Your SB will keep me motivated to post more often I hope
Thank you for your pictures. They help me.

the apple looks much better than the fruit on your earlier post. I think the smooth feeling of the apple applies quite good. Some shadows are missing in the hole on the top. Maybe this would give it some more depth.

I made the same promise to myself in my own sketchbook, about posting something everyday, and I found it extremely difficult as well : P. But hey, keep at it, man. Some advice, loosen up a bit more with your gesture drawings, and try to make less lines. Focus more on the fluidity of the pose and less on the contours, and proportions (those come later). If I may recommend a book, it'd be Michael Hampton's Figure Drawing - Design and Invention. If you haven't read it you should, it's an excellent book, and will really help with drawing the figure.

    Hope that helps. Good luck!

    Character Sketches

Late night sketches of two characters and Blastoise. I used a sumo wrestler as a reference for Blastoise.

I am finding it a bit difficult to keep up the study-a-day thing, but I'm gonna keep on pushing on.

Thanks for the advise. I'll see if the library has a copy of the book

Been trying to squeeze in a few studies in between work and commissions. Here are some head sketches from Burne Hogarth's "Dynamic Figure drawing" and Allan Kraayvanger's "Secrets to drawing heads"

Most of these are done in pen.

Sat down and finally managed to draw a hand. Usually I get distracted when I attempt to do things like this.

Hi MrWolf, looking good here. Keep drawing and posting, it'll pay off.
Quick note: When you draw eyes it's easy to make the lids look flat and ultra thin. Be careful about what kind of lines to use to depict them. In the upper left corner of the latest sketch page the eyelid seems to have no thickness to it at all - that might be something to pay attention to. A guy called Robolus on these forums draws eyes pretty well, as far as I can remember... might wanna check him out.
    Keep 'em coming..!

Haven't had much drawing time lately. Earlier I decided to do some painting practice. Not 100% done with the Mango and I have a feeling the fruit bowl will take some time.

New goal. Get as much drawing done on my days off.

You've got some nice studies going on! Your fruit gets better each post, and I'm a big fan of your style. Well done.
