One of my first digital paintings that wasn't a strict study, got bored of rendering so its been collecting dust. The pose is from a reference.

Lots of new painter traits in this including working in too low of a res, super contrast, over blending and tons of overlay. Still, please feel free to comment and critique; i'm sure there are plenty of errors that I have not noticed!

Well if you're still learning to apply the paint, then I can't crit that--it looks like good practice. And I like the blending, and the marks that look like watercolor.

But I can crit the composition and narrative. I would say the hands are too close to the edges. The narrative is confusing--I cant tell whats happening. Is he on his knees on the ground or is he floating or are his legs behind some thick smoke or? Always paint the plane which characters are on unless they are cropped off obviously.

Yeah, certainly the comp could be better as planning was minimal. I considered widening the painting a tad so his hands come near the edge but not quite to create tension.
