    E.O.W Round #183: Transformers Planet

    E.O.W Round #183: Transformers Planet

    TOPIC = Transformers Planet
    topic suggested by MatejaPetkovic

    Brief:

The Transformers is an animated television series depicting a war among giant robots who could transform into vehicles, other objects and animal-like forms. For this week's EOW, you are asked to design a Transformers planet/city... could be interesting machinery and all that jazz.

Here's some fuel, Autobots... (or Deceptacons)

Pixeltuner: i like your idea of a sort of street view, but i think it seems a little to compressed space-wise,
i think angle of the buildings frame the characters you have at the bottom making them the main focus, the thing
that saves you is the top rear background elements i like the tall buildings, hope that helps maybe?

I'm not sure I actually understand what you mean.. but I'll look into widening up the composition a bit.

Pixeltuner, widening the composition might help, and maybe consolidating your perspectives. You have a few interesting shapes going on here but the viewer's eye is pulled every which way, there's a lot of elements vying for attention. Also, be careful not to lock yourself into dead-end architecture, plan out your structures beforehand and then place them in the scene. Looking good though, can't wait to see more.

These are just too much fun...

Pixeltuner: yeah what Corrick said thats what i was trying to say, but he said it better and elevated it.

Incinerated: i had the same idea its uncanny i was going to add a planet in the back ground, also around the fore plant add a edge light from a sun. Nice.

Corrick: your making it look way to easy. I'm going to start a Corrick request thread

Corrick: I'm fairly new to doing environments which involve architecture, so I guess that shows. I've tried to simplify the scene removing the background clutter and tightening up some stuff that was sticking out for no reason as well as widening the scene..

EDIT: More progress and simplification. Going a bit more cartoony.

Hi everyone, i went for a more earth like version, probably the outskirts of the main city where only a few transmission beacons exist, ancient relics but still active... had fun!

Nice one Luis, love it. My only thought might be not to have the buildings 'faces' directly facing the camera. It flattens things out a bit. If there were looking in towards the center more that might also bounce you through the composition better too.

Quick thought for Incinerated too - be careful with your use of the soft air brush for glows on lights. It's best used subtely. otherwise it can end up giving the whole picture a bit of a blobby feel even if they only take up small portions of the whole image. I'd also be inclined to suggest that you push the levels a bit to bring some blacks back in, especially in the main structure and the space/stars on the right .It'd give the image a bit more depth and pop I think

Good point monsi, even a slight rotation would have positively added to the piece...guess i became too focused on the design at that time that i kinda forgot the overal...always learning!

Corrick Those are awesome, I hope you can show that a transformer can fit inside those buildings.

snafuthats cool. I keep wanting to look at it sideways.
