I decided to start a sketch book. I am just wanting to better myself and I am hoping to learn. Here is the most recent piece i have done and i would appreciate any crits.

so i was trying to make a creepy looking fire starter.
Welcome!
Nice start. I really love the lips in the portrait!
I'm not sure if this is intended, but the skintones look quite greyish/dead in both pictures you postet - you might want to add some red tones where the blood shows through (the nose for example).
Take care & keep posting!

I was kind of going for the dead feel. but something did look off so I took your advice I think it looks much better. I could be wrong but please let me know.
just trying to draw from my head play with brushes and colors with no refs. its not good at all its always fun though. Ill keep working at it though. hopefully i get better without using a ref.
It really does look better!
And she still looks kind of creepy, in my opinion.
water study. bed time. im thirsty.
im just er.............
It did not come out perfect but i am happy with the result now I hope I can apply this to a personal piece.
another one from imagination. If anyone could give me some tips on rendering I would be very grateful.
Off to a good start cricketts801,
now it's time do anatomical practices.
Work on faces and bodies, but anyways...
cool stuff so far.
Cheeers
Yea i have been but i dont save them unless i like them.
ten minutes each hand.
wart hog study
i got lazy and stopped
im going to try to apply what i learned to something. I dont know im frustrated I can draw what I see but when im not looking itss like im using my left hand. Any tips would help.
Nice color use.
If you want to learn how to draw things for imagination study how things are build up. What basic shapes and you can add smaller new shapes ontop of the bigger ones.
When you do studies try to determen how it is build up, prefferably in 3d, so take into acount the space around the object.
and is never hurts to study some perspective and anatomy.
For example get 10 gorilla pictures so you can see it from different angles and then try to get your head around the shapes, how its build up and draw your own.
Hope that helps. Keep on going and trying.

just a quick painting
I know the neck is messed up im working on that but im trying to make this look real it looks like a cartoon to me and im stuck if anyone could throw out what they think I would be so appreciative.
trying to learn
Nice start man! Thanks for stopping by my sb.
I really like that frankenstein one, how you brought some if the color form the background onto his head, eyes look good too. Maybe just some reference for his neck to get the muscles. Maybe a bit more darker definition on the nose and mouth/chin.
When you painting think of it as if your sculpting a clay model that has real form, paint your brush around the forms. Think of light and shadow side. Also for practice on lighting, some simple still life's from life can help to understand how light affects forms.
Hope this is helpful, keep going
I have to step away from it for a couple days. come back with fresh eyes. please let me know what you think.
I recieved a crit and a paintover from dan warren with crimson daggers I like them both. Oh and your missing an awesome interview with Kemp Remillard from massive black http://livestre.am/w4M
i did not like all the fur. I am having problems with color hopefully will get past it.
I have been watching walking dead. So i did a zombie fan art.
This is my nephew. This painting was inspired by a incident he had while playing a high school basketball game and a x ray of what happened. He was boxing some kid out and the kid got frustrated and as my nephew was walking away the kid hit him from behind. A sucker punch. It broke my nephew's jaw. He did not drop he stood tall and still does. He is a champ. watch my process here http://youtu.be/ADmWIlgBYAY

Hi, I'm new to the sketchbook forum and took a look at your art. I love the lighting in this one and the detail to the figure's jewelry!
I am walking away from this for at least two days. If any one sees anything I can do to Get it a little more realistic looking I would appreciate any input.
I had so many issues with this.
updated sketch
