    KiBa´s Sketchbook

I´m suffering a horrible disease... it´s called a motivational slump!

Yeah, you heared right, folks. Devastating, isn´t it?

A sketchbook here will be hopefully my cure.

My aim is to get back the routine, I had a few years ago and to improve of course, as much as possible.

    Let´s get productive!

    that´s a warm welcome, I would say ;D

thanks guys, very much appreciated! If that´s not motivating, I don´t know what is

    _____

Want to focus more on studies in the future. I never made any, so I realise how inefficient I was.

Color is still my biggest weakness (and environments and so forth^^). My color management isn´t very precise, it is often only a lucky guess. That needs to be changed.

Ooooh those environment thumbs are beautiful! This sketchbook is off to an awesome start. Subscribed, the pressure's on!

    littlebone thanks

Again a bunch of color study thumbs, characters and a few scribbles.

I started to take a look at Loomis for the purpose of learning to simplify form. My first heads look really crappy, but I´m certain that will change with a bit of practise. It´s just difficult for me at the moment to draw objects from different perspectives, that´s why all my characters are static for example.

    So much to do

    ColeBot612 hey, thanks man

in2eternity glad, you dropped by The only thing I´m comfortable with, are characters at the moment^^

Sebastian jep, läuft einwandfrei. Danke dir!

I made a little compilation of different faces, but somehow they often tend to be very similar. Took more time than expected, but it was a lot of fun. While doing these, I came to the realization that sadly I can draw better with my tablet than with pencil

I also have a problem with sameface characters. I found this pdf to be really cool, though I haven't really applied it to any of my artwork yet, but you might find it helpful in designing more unique faces! It's an interesting new way of doing it I suppose.

Loomis is fantastic for studying how the head is put together but his teachings do kind of lead to everyone looking the same unless you really push it.

I will definitely give it a read. Thanks!

Of course you can always just exaggerate and make huge noses, strange head forms etc., but then in gets comic like very fast. I want to find a balance in that. It all comes down to practise and observation.

    here´s some basic stuff... skulls
(the rendered ones of course with ref)

Hey, nice work, especial the environment studies. One suggestion, concentrate on the darker tones and use the lighter areas/highlights sparingly, small hints of highlighted areas are better at conveying reality and a sense of scale.

    Keep it up!

I was thinking about studies quite a bit. As I already mentioned, I am totally not used to doing those, never bothered to do any. Back then, I was so proud of myself, for being able to draw everything from imagination and judged others for using reference. They are just copying images, right, right? WRONG
Of course I changed my mind and just recently I started doing studies, thanks to university buddies.

Still I´m not sure how to approach studies and will hopefully get something out of it soon. Sometimes it just ends with the feeling of achieving nothing and making a copy. Should I detail it out like crazy? What for? Or maybe just a rough definition of values and form?

Yada, Yada, Yada... I can count the amount of studies I made on my hands and I´m already whining

My plan right now is learning the basics, focusing on human anatomy first -> character design

So don´t wonder why I´m only drawing silly skulls ;D

Quite a tiny update for today:_( Waiting for semester break!

    Until next time!
