Just realised I had my brush on a slightly spaced setting so thats why my edges would come out weird even when on 100% hardness, hopefully this makes a little bit of a difference.

Ok so heres some really basic stuff. The only thing I actually painted on the digital piece is the sphere, the rest were done with cell shading.
Think that I established the form better in this one than in the other ones, not sure though. Still life number 11.
Hey, never undermine your work or be intimidated to post things! Everyone on the site is still learning as well. The point is to get better, and I can see progress here!
You seem to be going pretty well. I think the best way to progress would be to keep practicing with the fundamentals. When I checked out the images from your sketchbook, it seemed you were doing the outline of the figure primarily, rather than focusing on the overall structure and anatomy. As a good practice, you should check out this website
http://www.pixelovely.com/gesture/figuredrawing.php
And try out some figure drawing exercises. As for the studies, you seem to be getting the overall shapes right, but you can try playing around with the rendering of the objects. Think about the materials, where the light is hitting, how it reflects, and the overall surface of all the objects. I would try to sum it up, but check out this website for a crazy good explanation, as well as other useful information.

It's great to see you posting, keep it up! I'm really inspired from what I'm seeing here.
Thanks a lot for taking the time to write such a long message it really means a lot.
Studies are starting to look better and better. Keep it up.
Thanks man, appreciate it.
I have practiced painting cylinders in photoshop. One thing that I have realised I have been doing is running my midtone transitions into my core shadow rather than having it only in the midtone area which has been totally destroying the form, an example of this would be my last post. I have tried to fix it in these studies though.
Study 12, feel like this one is a little bit more dynamic, definitely never got enough of a range though.
About the midtones and shadows on the cylinders. You don't add any reflecting light, usually an object gets some reflected light from either the surface it's standing on, or other close objects. So the light goes like this: highlight and bright tones, going to mid tones, then core shadow, then a bit brighter than the core shadow again, due to the reflective light. Doing this would make it look alot rounder. The core shadow is where the lightbeams go parallel with the surface, and the highlight where they hit the surface perpendicular.
Also adding some drop shadows would really putt them on the page now they look like they are floating.
Good to see you working on the basics. Once you get that down the rest will be easy. Keep it up!
Thanks man
Ok so started some Loomis studies (not anatomy) and already think he's my favourite person in the world. He just explains stuff so simply.
First ones a sketchy illustration/character design from my imagination because I haven't done any fun drawings in days lol. The seconds another study, not happy with the values at all but Ithink the forms coming along a little bit. Plus I'm gonna have to start scanning these sketches because you can't see them properly through photos.
Still life 14. In case you didn't know, it's meant to be a spoon.
So heres still life 15, might not be able to upload anything for the next two days cus I'll be busy, but I'll try my best not slack as much as I can. Might texture this as it was wood and reupload it sometime.
Just thought I'd throw this on here as a filler, scanned the bedroom sketch into photoshop but the colours are horrible and not finished.
Hey! Nice to see you working hard at painting. It's great that you are also working in traditional drawing too.
Check out this link, I think it will be very helpful

Thanks for the comment voodoo mama.
thanks for the link aswell, i'ts really helpful
I really like the drawing of the room, very nice level of detail, feels very lifely. The coloring does need more work though. Keep it up man doing good
EDIT: i would recommend maybe adding something in the top corners to balance out the rest of the drawing. It feels rather heavy towards the centre with nothing in all that empty space at the corners (unless that is what you were going for ofcourse)
Thanks man, I think your probaby right about me having to much detail in the one area compared to the top, I also think they looked bad though because I've used too much of a range of colours and that they are mostly around a middish or high value with no really dark ones.
still life 16, and here I have my process, but it turned out really bad, hopefully though someone will be able to point out some of my mistakes from seeing my process.
You are missing a coreshadow and highlight. On a cylinder, there should be a highlight on the entire length of the cylinder as well (how big and how bright depends on the material).
The shadow area seems to be almost all the same tone, there should be a core shadow where the light cannot touch and then close to the surface your object is standing on, a bit of reflected light, so that area will be just a little bit brighter again then the core shadow. Also, the only way to get a dropshadow like that is to have a spotlight on it, dropshadow tend to be very dark close to the object and soften up a bit further away.
But is starting to look better and better, keep it up![]()
Thanks for the advice man I'll think about it in future drawings.
still life 17
super quick nose study, quick question though if anyone can answer because I'm confused about something. Should I be blending my highlights to my midtonesor my midtones to my shadows using the opacity, or should I just be using the soft brush for those, and only blending with opacity for slightly varying tones.
still life 17. This is meant to be drapery and it was soooooooo tedious lol. The mix of hard and soft edges was so tricky.
speed painting/study of a portrait. Have some other portrait study sketch stuff that I'll be uploading but I'll leave that for later. Lol at his right eye being totally messed up. Oh and I might work on it more sometime if I can be bothered.
added colour and rendered it a slight bit more. Hope the colour doesn't make you vomit.
