    Just another sketchbook

Brief intro (for those of you who are interested):

Like many others here, I finally decided to create my own SB after almost 6 or 7 months of visiting and quietly observing all these marvelous SBs. I waited a lot cause I felt I wasn't good enough, but what the hell right (and that "fear" of new stuff in art almost always prevents me from experimenting...)? We're here to learn.

I'll start with these drawings (first one is kinda old) Ok, so here we go (from oldest to newest):

    Studies:

Yari Samurai (Shogun 2! Great game btw)

    And finally a hybrid (referenced)

    Sorry about the quality :/
Crits and comments are much appreciated.

Hey man, I would say study a lot of anatomy from books like Andrew Loomis, you can find pdfs online by just googling Andrew Loomis pdf or something like that.

Also draw from life. Usually the best way to learn is to draw something as accurate as you can from life/photo/book and then try to redo it from imagination.

Also don't be afraid of doing stuff that you're not comfortable with. You learn from failure, not success.

But just keep going and draw a lot . cheers.

@ErikR: Thanks for the advice! I'll post some studies from him. And, yeah, for the moment I'm just trying to observe and draw from pictures (google images). I'm already taking some summer drawing classes, and it's good to be able to draw from life . Thanks for stopping by.

Some more studies, mostly women since I can't really draw them as good:

Hmm...I shouldn't draw too lightly. I've uploaded some crappy digital stuff as well, although I'm going to stay away from them a while; need to improve my pencils.

    As always, comments are appreciated.

    Hi !

You got a nice start keep working ! =)
I like your digital stuff, I'd just advise you to look a bit at anatomy, it could help you in your studies =) (Personally I use the Sarah Simbley "Anatomy for the Artist" book which is very precise I think...)

@Octic: Hey, thanks, and I hope seeing you around here.
@alizak: Studies are definitely a must. And, thank you for stopping by!
@Izzual: Yep, you're right, I'll look at anatomy (and I'll check that book). Thanks for the advice!

Ok, so nothing much here; some studies and two "finished" pieces. I did notice how different each drawing looks when I held them in front of the mirror. I then realized that the warrior's right leg seemed a bit off.
The girl's mouth still doesn't really convince me...Maybe if someone could tell me what's wrong with it?

The girls mouth appears to be front on while the girls face is on a slight angle - I think that is the problem.

Thanks for commenting on my sketchbook!
Your latest portrait studies are quite good. Also, I like the tones at several of your works (the samurai, for example).

@Guardian G.I: Thanks for visiting my SB as well and I'm glad you like my works
    @alizak: Yep, I think you're right. Thanks!

Wow, I've been too lazy...must get back to drawing.
The usual stuff, some rather quick studies and another drawing, which I may refine it further (kinda stuck at the moment).

Hey - thanks for stopping by my sketchbook a while back.

You have some nice pencil drawings in here. It's good that you're hitting those preference ose sites for practice as well. One thing I'd say is to do some 30 and 60 second gestures for warm up - get all loosened up, and then take on some longer poses. One thing I'll do when using this (http://www.pixelovely.com/gesture/figuredrawing.php) site is do the "1 hour class". It starts off with 30 second poses, moves into 60, goes to 1 minute 45 seconds and so on all the way up to a half hour pose (may be 20 minutes). But it's a great way to warm up and then hit a few more serious sketches.

    Keep pushing and good luck!

Hi Adrianor! Good start on your sb.
I see you’re working on that body sketches. You should try the Loomis, it will teach you the basics about the body. I have just started sketching myself and find his books very helpful.
Just recently I looked on this tutorial and it has made me think in a totally new way. It gives a new flow to your sketching. You should try it, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xmiwG...el_video_title
Thanks for visiting my sb. Hope to get more input from you!
    Keep up the good work!

I like your subjects so far, especially those Templar knights in your last post, also those jeans studies.
