Hi, thanks for checking out my sketchbook again, thought I'd repay the favor.
Cool new stuff, you're showing improvement. Really like that color study, seeing how colors look relative to another one is very important.

About the months of practise needed on getting skintones right, its ofcourse not easy but you might as well try rather than saying you won't get it right anyways. :p
Just have a look at pictures, try to get the color right without colorpicking. If you can't seem to get it right, colorpick it to check which color it is, then 'scramble' your color again and try to get it again.

(Tip on skintones, or anything that has to look lively really, mix some other colors in it with the same value. Easiest way to do this in photoshop is to colorpick and then only change your hue slider and paint a bit, and repeat.)

Keep up the good work though.

    hey man, nice speed landscapes.
a quick tip on the faces: you may already be aware, but I find that flipping the
canvas horizontally throughout the process of painting helps me to spot flaws in
the anatomy and just gives a new perspective to help you fix errors. Maybe it's a
bit of a crutch, but I feel that it improves the quality of the finished artwork...

    good luck

Topcross Thanks, skin is definitely something I wont give up on for a long time until i get it right. Good thing about skin is that if you can pick colours in skin you can pick em in pretty much everything.

WRaappiii Thanks, I do flip my canvas but not nearly as much as I should, I think I should probably hotkey it lol. But you are right, it totally does help but normally i remember too late lol.

Worked yesterday but managed to get an hour or three on my ChoW and a couple of sketches from a documentary in my sketchbook.

Finished my chow to the point I can be bothered I think, also managed to get enough gestures for the spartan camp, though the ones from imagination look kind of flat.. Oh well, I'll get better eventually.
Also a frog study and a couple of enviro studies, the last one is completely made up and it shows >.> Getting there, but slowly...

Nice updates Jaik. There’s a good variety of studies. I like how you got the proportions of the frog that nicely. The lines in the last images of body sketches are definitely the best.
    Keep on trucking!

Greenhouse Good to hear I'm doing something right, colour continues to be my crux though, but I am slowly clawing my way up.. I hope.. Still struggling to apply the studies though (my ChoW was meant to have that sort of frog textured skin, didnt turn out so well....) Thanks for visiting

Okay so today have a few sketches from my sketchbook. There was a grasshopper on my window so i stole some quick anatomy sketches then tried to reconstruct it a couple of hours later. Started planning the CoW that Ill enter this week.

Digitally we have some colour theory stuff, and an enviro.. nothing really exciting, I really am not doing too good with this enviro quickies from imagination though.. Anyone have any tips? Im sticking with the soft round, hard round and default chalk brushes, is that what I'm doing wrong? should i try other brushes? make my own? Wandering lost atm.

Oh and i finished working through Norlings Perspective made easy. Anyone have any recommendations for a more advanced book?

Whoa, lots of studies mate! Your sketches are coming along very nicely! It’s good to see the variety of it.
The ‘bat’ sketches are cool and funny. Keep on working on that COW image, even if you might not send it. It’s a very cute image.
The still is interesting. I think that you sometimes should take more time with an image getting it polished. It’ll help you improve the rendering skills. And it also get a boost to your confidence.
Nice shadow studies in the post before. Where did you found the study? I’d like to try. Thanks for doping by my sb!
    Keep up the good work!

Thanks Greenhouse! Ill work more on the bat thingo, I was just going to give up lol =/ replied to your question in your SB btw, which you will undoubtedly check before looking here

    --

Sooo today, Dad was watching the F1, so i got a sneaky sketch in, technically its like him, could see what I did wrong, but I really didnt capture his likeness.. No idea how I screwed up which is semi-frustrating....
Figure drawing practice, used the starting theme of the last episodes of Naruto for the non-Loomis ones, it was good because they just gave an outline and it was incredibly stylised in every other regard so i had to fill in the blanks.
Also did 2 imagination enviros.. These are sooo hard ;_; but I see very vague improvements.

    Thanks for looking!

looks like you've been hard at work! just keep on doing those photo studies.
maybe try working in black and white, it'll help you nail those values.

I second the black and white suggestion. Try to get the drawing and values right in yoiur studies first, color is a whole new world. Nice Bammes studies!

Decided to take WRappiii and Verticals advice and go back to black and white values, so did a couple of studies, tried to leave the values blocked in on the face as much as I would allow myself, face is still screwed up, but mehh

And todays body part is the knee..

Then an enviro from my head, probably one of my better ones yet, still working in black and white, getting the values right, may work on it a bit more, who knows...

Anyway, thanks for viewing, crit if you can

Not a heap today, read a fair bit on colour theory rather than drawing, I guess thats unavoidable though.. Should be able to get more done tomorrow.
Did an eniviro from a tutorial that I have since lost the link too..

So, today i did a black and white still life, I think my values are still too light though.. but I learnt a lot, I now see that I got into colour way too early and should really practice value a lot more. Saw a quote somewhere (i forget where) that said "Colour gets all the credit, but value does the heavy lifting".. Though I feel as I should have come to this conclusion a long time ago..

Also finished that enviro, well as finished as its ever going to be, and started on another.

My stuff for this weeks CoW, I really like the topic and think I may enter this time.. I been saying that for many weeks though >.> I went with the stationary male, hyperactive female.

    Two reffed 20min enviros
