classical animation shorts (grad films) - 1 more film added mars 27

hey there, thought i share some of the awesomeness from my class (CA78) from VFS that just graduated in december 2011.

these are the films that been put out on the web so far, and im just linking to the traditional animated (pencil and paper) but we also did a flash film and some have it on their vimeo so shouldnt be to hard to find, and they are also very much worth a look!

The classical films are created from storyboard - layout - rough animation - clean animation - scan to DIP - color to finished all by one person each and in about 4 months (it felt like an eternity) and the flash films in one month!


Ill update this list as more of them finds their way up on the web!

These are all really good. I think everyone on this forum could learn something from viewing these. Seems like they had some sort of requirements on these. Scene changes, character is holding something or is trying to get something from another character. Also there seems to be some sort of need for a story of some kind.

In most cases there seems to have been a lot of different instructors/animation supervisors. The animation is really unique to the characters that were designed.
The variety of instructors makes me think that the student could could find specific advice from the appropriate instructor for these assignments.

Some are better than others but they all have a very polished look to them.
The Calarts Reels were pretty good this round as well in the character animation program. Most of them are 2D. I think less than 15% were actually CG. A lot of them were not in finished form though. I'll see if I can find a link there, but I will definitely share a few of these!

I thought it was a pretty good haul overall but these were some of the ones I liked or thought the animation was really good on...

there where no real requirements, we were allowed to do our own thing, if someone felt more comfortable with background designs they could focus on that rather than the animation, and opposite, and i dont think they even required us to have a story if you absolutely dont want one but i think most of the class had some sort of story in it, these films i posted is only about half of the class, unfortunately i havent found the others to post theirs yet (including me, doh x)

yeh youre right on, its really nice to have alot of different views on your animation or just finding an instructor that maybe is more interested in/or understands the style or story or feeling your going for.

yeh the goal is to have a finished short film, its not often i think that someone ends his/her year with an unfinished film but i seen a few that mostly lacks inbetweens here and there.

thanks for sharing those Calarts film too! really nice, some i hadnt seen but are these ones their final year films? its a bit "boring" in lack of other words to see some of the longer shorts just being keys or some just posed.
