Learn perspective, it will seriously improve how you approach environments and drawing people/ objects. There are some good tutorials on ctrlpaint for informal perspective and many good books out there on formal perspective, such as David Chelsea's book 'Perspective! For comic book artists'.

Anatomy also needs major work, before launching yourself into painting skulls, heads and torsos, learn to see them in simple planes first, learn basic proportions. Get a solid grounding and practice as much as you can from life.

In master studies, attempt to get all the measurements accurate first, before moving onto details. Simplify.

Overall, it looks like you're working hard and doing well, keep going

Hey Man, glad to see your still working hard. I can't echo Black swans' views about perspective and basic form loud enough. Perspective is one of those principles that a lot of people don't value, and to tell the truth i didn't realize myself until i started to actively study it. It's the cats pajamas, the bees knees and the all other ridiculous expression's involving animals put together. When you master it so much stuff will make sense that you previously fudged and guessed and where confused by. then you can learn to wrap the form around perspective forms and you'll be flying. You entering this current EOW buddy?

Thanks for the comment UD. I sort of ran out of steam on the image, i'm trying to sketch out my ideas more before jumping in, otherwise i seem to get a little lost and falter at the end. I like the last few images, not so much the last piece, but the 3 before it are cool. What resolution are you painting at? You want to be painting at like 2-3,000 pxls minimum on the longest side. Also post about 7 - 9 hundred pxls tall if you want to get more accurate critique; as it's hard to see everything. The last image could be interesting, you need to put it to one side and create like 8 small thumbnails to get a better composition going. Think about depth. There is no background or real mid ground in this piece. If you squint your eyes you can only read the light markings on the rocks and that's about it. keep fighting the good fight buddy!

great to see the way you have been cranking out the volume over the last few months, maybe some longer pencil studies from life would help to work on lines values and study light ect keep it burning.

Hey Undonhead thanks for your comment in my sketchbook. I've really enjoyed looking through yours and I think maybe you like to draw and paint onions as much as I like pears. In an effort to help I thought you might want to think about what is the focal point in some of your environments and also add a bit more atmospheric perspective to them. I really like the concept in post 124 but everything seems to be in sharp focus in the fore and mid ground so it's difficult to tell where the main focal point is. Hope this helps.

Your comps are coming along well U. The last to are stellar, and the bird balances out the last grey scale out well. Maybe do some studies of light on dust/clouds? and some studies of particle effects as the rendering on them could be improved upon. Noah Bradley does a lot of cool clouds with light bursting through and on them, maybe give him a look.

    Keep on truck'n.

I know the feeling buddy; every morning i look at what i did yesterday and just see everything that's wrong with it. But that's the nature of the game; it's how you improve. Other people don't see it that way when seeing your stuff, it's just a personal thing. I genuinely think as a sketch those lava pieces rock. Take a note of what you dislike about the image and study to improve on that aspect of your skills.

    thanks for dropping,

I treat sketching like quick capturing ideas for later like you said refining and of course need to do it
    thanks for reminding me

looking at your paintings I think you should work more on hard edges and rendering different materials
maybe while painting work with some general references related to subject you're painting it will help you definatelly

    cheers
