DAMN IT!!! Flying train with solar panels!! thats bloody genius!! Ya mine i don't think is going to be much of an illustration, more like a design sheet with side view and front view, so i can take her into Maya and make it 3d. But i assure you im working my ace off on those views, detail and all..... Honestly perspective scares the crap out of me, i know i need to learn it, but hasnt been a barrier im willing to face yet, keep her up though sushi, i seriously like that idea, means the train can go anywhere as long as theres those panel things. So Jealous!! ;P
Well been workin my ace off, i think its paying off though, still a crap tons of work left to do on her but heres what im at so far... just black and white, just trying to get comfortable with values and shading.
Just gave up being lazy

Hello guys!
I'd recommend to you to explore Scott Robertson's works and especially his video tutorials. He gives some simple but very effective tips and techniques on creating aircraft and vehicles and this will really help you a lot in creating mechas. http://cargocollective.com/drawthrough# - here's his website. Google pictures link
Also I'd recommend to look through this guys' works, he does a lot of mechanical drawings and 3d modelling, copying his works and understanding how is that done will be helpful for you. http://karanak.deviantart.com/gallery/ http://karanak.livejournal.com/
He also has some tutorials on how to creat mechanical stuff in Google Sketchup but they're in Russian But whatever, you may not understand the language but the pictures are quite helpful. http://karanak.livejournal.com/tag/tutorial
Maybe I'm Capt.Obvious now but I felt like writing about that. Hope it helps!
Hi, I would like to join, I have access to a lot of real life engineering mechanical diagrams and auto parts such as engines, hydraulic components, hulls, bolts, etc, I think it would be useful for us to see components and stuff to add logic and usability to our mechs, I will be sharing pictures and links for reference.
also I would recommend the deviantart groups like sci fi archives and mecha hangar.
Here some mechanical parts http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/g_U_201...-GNTGKA_1.html
your colors are nice, but you should check your perspective
try to draw a horizon, and vanishing points
once you v did it for a few times, you ll be able to draw perspective easier without the guidelines
keep it up!
So yeah, I am just posting a new challenge, feel free to join and share WIPs here
The topic is mecha suit. All you have to do is design some kind of advanced suit (does not have to be a battle suit, can be nearly anything) and post it here
Deadline is 31 May 2012 :>
That is great, Uncharted_Artist! Drawing everything is good, I think you definately should be doing that and are already on the right track in your sketchbook.
The idea of this group is to share studies and artworks (and maybe even resources) about mechanical things. It is fine to sometimes include other studies as long as they are connected to something related to mecha Of course practicing the "regular" studies is important too, but you could post those in your own sketchbook so that this topic is focused on the mecha stuff.
And of course, the main idea is to improve in drawing (and then especially in drawing the machines, cars, robots, cyborgs etc)
I hope I am making sense. xD
And yeah, I really need to learn perspective too.
anyway, I start off with sharing a study. I thought it also may be a good idea to set a theme for every... month (or a smaller period) to draw something :>
I will think about that Feel free to suggest all your ideas
Here is a car study, I drew it from a magazine about super cars. I sketched it with pencil and then inked it with a ballpoint pen. Attachment 1377711
Critique would be appreciated too, we are here to improve of course! xD
Also I think inspiration is very important too, so here is a song that I find inspirational for MECHAAAA
good lines car ,like the concep, what is the car ?
Thanks Sphinx, I am not sure what car it was, but I think it was a mercedes.
By the way, if you want to learn to draw mecha, it could be useful to learn to draw cars as well.
Or enter the challenge, because practice makes perfect!
The original supercar you posted is a mclaren mp4-12c. Hi I'm Jesse. I'm definitely a mecha fan. I'm making an iOS game right now that uses a lot of Tanks and Robots. I've been doing tons of concept sketches lately to get all my tank designs the way I want them. I'll take you up on the suit challenge, it sounds like fun.
Also, I'd reiterate the earlier comment about perspective Sushy. Because there are so many straight lines in Mecha and Industrial drawing, if your perspective lines are off it really shows. You can fudge perspective with people and landscapes but not mecha.
I'm digging the guy at the lower right, its a cool helmet. I think the trick to making a good mecha design is coming up with a visual theme. If you do a great helmet, try to echo that design throughout the drawing. I'm still brainstorming what kind of suit I want to do.
I had some ideas rolling around in my head for a female form fitting suit. Instead of doing some sort of sexy getup though, I thought about making a more practical astro/pressure suit that would be able to withstand harsh environments. General influences on this would be the Bubblegum crisis suits and probably some of the new Prometheus suit designs.
Nice to see you do not want to go for the "standard sexy sci-fi concept". I think women never would go clean up nuclear garbage or defeat monsters in suits that show off their sexiness. xD I mean, all that tight clothing just gets in the way ^^;
I like the shoes you gave her Helmet looks a bit strange in my opinion. How does she see?
OK here is my scrappy stuff
^ this one is the pose for the final illustration :V
The visor is open and the helmet is empty right now. The visor will flip down when she's ready to go into a harsh environment. There will be images projected on the inside of the helmet as well. I do like this new suit design, it reminds me of Cashan Robot Hunter a bit. I'm still not sold on the 5 sided arm blaster though. Engineer the whole armor on his arm to incorporate the blaster rather than just tacking the blaster onto his arm. Right now, it looks more like an after thought rather than a planned design.
Looking great. Definitely looks better when rendered. I forgot we had planned a Memorial day vacation so I'm really far behind with artwork in general. I may miss the end of May date.
It is fine if you do not make it. The deadline is just to motivate to get it finished ^^;
That is how I usually work, I put myself a deadline, else I just won't finish. I do not think I will make it in time as well. My graduation is getting in the way again :|
My goal is to have it at least finished by the end of this week!
Go, Go, you can do it! In glancing again, it does look like the blast is aiming a bit upwards from the angle of the blaster. Maybe you could line up the center of the blast with the center line of the blaster.
It's looking good. In the background though, I like how the right side of the background fades into the distance a bit. Could you do that with the left side or is the digital landscape just supposed to end there? The beam and lighting look a lot better.
In reality, I think I over promised and under delivered. I got invited to a game studio this Friday and they seem interested in me. They like my 2D environmental work so I'm scrambling to update my portfolio with such. I'm starting to notice a trend of people not liking my characters much but being more interested in my machinery and landscapes. I did like doing the suit design and I'd like to finish it. Whenever I do, I will make sure I post it here. right now, I'm working on a futuristic semi truck design. I need a new enemy to blow up.
